Pic of how i did the transition between the metal roof and shingles. There are several things i did to ensure i dont get any leak into the house at this area:

1. There is tar paper and roofing underlay under the area where my 2x6 roof intersects to the old roof. So even if there was a leak it would go into the garage not into the house.

2. I used 2 foot wide flashing with the membrane under that.

3. I used tar on the flashing to help secure the shingles and seal it up.

I think it will work out well.

More pics... So as you can see the one side of the garage is low, however this is exactly how I wanted it, lots of room for any car, just not a truck. I can stand close to the wall and not hit my head, maybe I am short LOL!!!:rocker:

So it is a 5 foot high by 9 feet wide swing out door, this is a prototype and we will see how it works once I try the hinges that came just now in the mail. VERY nice hinges, check these bad boys out! Stainless steel, ball bearing, 4 inch I am impressed!

The taller side is ROUGH framed out to be a set of 4.5 foot wide by 8 foot tall swinging doors.

*** In most of the pics there is still lots of work to do beefing things up but first I am trying to get it all roughed out and lining up how I want it... If it looks half assed, its just not done yet...

That is a good question Ric I sure hope so!

The only things left to do are to build two swing out doors (for the 8 foot tall by 9 foot wide), mount them and then it will be sealed in and I can do the electrical and insulate. Then finally the interior OSB sheeting.

Got the swing out doors built, all the electrical is done, using 5.5 inch thick insulation all around. Sheeting in the interior roof and once as I get the insulation in. I am only getting a few hours here and there to get things done so it is taking forever.

The renter moved out, so i have two weeks to make some more upgrades to the house before the new renters move in. Doing new trim around all the interior doors and lots of painting and minor fixes. A portion of the foundation was in need of repair so I was able to build a sturdy wood form and I am pouring Cement today. I got sand, gravel and portland cement mix to do it myself with my electric mixer. Wish me luck!

Please excuse the mess!!!!

Nice - so is this garage right next to the tenants house?

Used for Storage or a Shop?

Yes the garage is right next to the tenant's house.

I had issues with water pooling at that side of the house and getting into the basement, so the garage helps re-route the rain/snow away from the house.

I have designed and had an engineer stamp my plans for a huge detached garage, however I need to save up about $30,000 to build that as I don't do credit. I have room to build that too.

95% of the time it will be used as storage, and once in a while I will work on vehicles in there. My 75 Regal will be on the low side with lots of room to work in front of it. And on the taller side I am putting my lifted step side GMC that needs an engine swap. I need to setup my steel gantry with wheels and also one of my 2 engine cranes. I will be respectful about not being noisy at odd hours so I think it will work out pretty good. I have it right in the rental contact that I keep use of 3 of the 4 sheds, the half acre beside the house where the garage is and the tenants yard is fenced in. However as perks for the tenant they get free use of a washer and dryer, ride on lawn mower, and log splitter.

I can so relate to only getting a bit done at a time. It is looking good.

Got about 8 hours in on it again, coming along well. I also built a concrete form and mixed up about 1 metre of concrete and poured a new section of the foundation that needed help. I used the ratio of 1 bag of portland cement mix, 2 parts gravel, and 1 part sand. I saw a 65% off deal on an electric concrete mixer and it worked out great and saved some cash!

I plan to use it more for small concrete projects.

No pics as I was working into the night and got it done on the last night before freezing weather hit.

The new trim will look nice when it's up.
Please post a pic or 2 when you get some of the trim up.

For sure, thanks!

Trim, uggghhh, tedious work, but can be fun if all is square and plumb. G'luck!!!

Yes it is all coming together really well. I had the one wall that was a bit out but it was easy to hide the imperfections.

Looking fantastic sean..

Thanks 1/2 Cup, always an honour to have you around!

I finally got the bucket truck home... Very cool setup! I have it advertised for about 3 times what I have into it...

Had a great day today!!! Worked on the siding and sealing up the door jams for the front swing out doors... they fit perfectly, and will not leak once I am done with the weatherstripping. All done the front and side exterior, got the garage back filled today and well but no pics as it was too dark. Excuse the mess I was organized through the day, but by the end it was a disaster LOL!!

I had the internet company send a tech out to setup my dish after I had re-located it onto the new roof... They came and re-calibrated it in 45 minutes of work so no big deal... Cost was $150 for the service call.. The tech saw my spare wood and said " I need a doghouse you should sell me some plywood...I have a big dog that needs a house" So while he was working I whipped up a 2.5 foot wide, 3 foot tall, and 4 foot deep doghouse complete with roof and 2x4 to put it all together... He loaded it all up as a kit into his SUV and took $90 off my bill.... Came and gone in 45 minutes!!!! Awesome!

I got laid off so I had time to get some stuff done... And got a new job today so its all good!

Built my 8th shed!!!! 12 feet long, 7 feet deep, and about 6 foot tall to the peak.. Just for storing extra wood. I think I need just 3 more and then I will have enough....

Got a $40 new/used framing nail gun... It may not look like much but WOW this thing ROCKS!

I just put 3 parts engines in the metal shed, out of sight out of mind... If I need them I can man-handle the shed away from my new one to get in.

Here is what 61 linear feet of shed looks like!!! 28 for the garage, 16 foot attached cube. 12 foot shed, and 5 foot shed!

I got the siding 100% done!!! Also weatherproofed between the cube and the garage.

I got the landscaping done around the garage too!

Plus I built this storm door outside the main door. The purpose is twofold....

1. Keep the weather out of the door area.
2. Add security as a vehicle can be parked against it making access to the door nearly impossible.

I changed out the gear ratios in front and rear diffs of my truck.... Now just 2200 RPM at 90 MPH (140 KM/H). For a big truck with mud tires it drives nice at speed... Fuel mileage is pretty good since I ported the heads and got a custom tune on the computer... Tires are wearing a bit faster but the smiles per gallon are up! The check engine light is on, but I checked and the engine is still there...

I think that the little one is not sure of his driver.

It looks good and glad that you have a new job.

Maybe some rocks or a gutter would really help with the water off that roof.

Got a few things done today... Setup some heat as I do not have the natural gas hooked up. I bought and filled 6 20 pound BBQ tanks to have spares to switch out. I will use 3 at a time and switch them out as needed. Only heating it when I am there working. It was -10 today and the smaller open flame heater was perfect to quickly warm the space. Then after about 20 minutes I shut it off as the stand up flamless was then working awesome.

Good video.
To what temperature your garage is heated?

Hi there! I am only heating the garage when I am working in it.

It was -10 C (14 F) yesterday and I thought about turning the heaters on, but I didn't bother... I just hate it when it is -30, I will likely set the thermostat at -5 once I get the natural gas furnace hooked up.
