Making Space - storage shed addition

Just like everyone else here, i needed some more space in the garage.

Here are a few pictures of my storage shed construction. The challenging part of the job (for me) was matching the roofline and soffits to the existing construction.

The cement fiber board was difficult to cut....Therefore an excuse to buy a new tool. This thing works great without producing any toxic dust.

Here's the almost final result. Now I just need to get it painted in the Spring.

Just curious, but that is a lot of work for what appears to be a 4x8 shed with most of the wall space broken up by a door and 4 windows. What do you intend to store in it?

It's for sprinkler replacement parts, chemicals, and a few yard tools.
I agree its small, not secure, and could be more functional. It was built to look good first and useful was secondary.

Judging by that statement, and by the fake 'window' to the right of it with a real window box and a wall pergola over it to help sell it.....I must surmise that a Home Owner's Association with the usual set of asinine rules and nosy busybodies might be in the mix?

Yes and it is a functional roof vent

No HOA. Spouse is a decorator. Plans are to build another garage in a couple of years. Maybe 40x40

Looks great. Very nicely detailed and finished. I would suggest looking at "kickout flashing" and make sure you have them so water isn't running behind the existing siding at the lower tips of the roof.

It appears built for a limited purpose which is good. I've noticed but don't quite understand why 100 years ago or even 60 years ago more residences and farms had many special purpose buildings. Today we build one big building and cram everything in to it. My great granddad had several out buildings on his land. The trend seems to be one building. I took someone's advice here I long since forgot who. Don't let the lawn tools or storage into the shop. Put them elsewhere.

The idea of a dedicated space like you've built is an excellent idea.

It's probably cheaper to build one big building instead of a bunch of little ones.

When I got remarried many years ago and I moved my new wife to Indiana she observed most people who have country lots have a second date garage or pole barn. I didn't notice it until she drew it to my attention.

Very nice build, but a small foot print gain.

Hard to see, but make sure you have "kick-out flashing" where the new roof meets the existing wall at the eves so that water does not run behind the siding.

In many places, zoning prohibits more than one detached structure.

I agree, my 10x12 with 15' gambrel shed was only $1500 installed
