Wondering where is the best place to buy tools online or the one you guys would recommend? Also I'm willing to wait and get things on sale if it's worth it.

Once I know the tool I want I just google the part number, sometimes froogle.google.com (price search specific part). The best place varies depending on how soon you need it, what brand, new or used, and whats most important price or service.

There is also a forum section discussing vendor experiences.

What are you looking for?

Same here. They're my first shot when looking for tools. I have spent a fair amount of money there over the past couple of years.

Amazon is a good place for more non-automotive specific tools. Can get some things for really good prices.

STAY AWAY FROM TOOL WAREHOUSE.NET!!
You can risk it if you like......I had ordered several times with them with no problem but when I finally had to deal with their customer service it was a joke.
Check out my post about them.
I have also ordered through Tooltopia(twice) and Tool Paradise (once) and had no problem with either but I haven't had to deal with their customer service so I can't give any insight on that.

Basically I'm starting from scratch (again) and need a box, hand tools and air tools. I'm working on a fairly decent budget for now but those 20 dollars off sure do add up fast. So ya new toolset for a weekend warrior and I would rather buy once and cry once.

If you need a box and a good full set of professional tools, buy somebody elses box all ready go and full of tools. Depending on the area they go for 10 to 20 cents on the dollar compared to new. Anything you don't need put on ebay.

Jeez…you guys are really hard on a fella trying to make a living. I read your posts and would like the opportunity to respond if I may. I was a truck driver for the Teamsters Local 813 up until March of ’07. I fell 15 feet off a ladder making a delivery down a basement and screwed myself up pretty good. For the first 4 months, I couldn’t even wipe my own behind. I lay in bed wondering what the heck I was gonna do for money while the bills were pilling up. I held a tool in my hand tinkering with anything with a plug or an engine since I could walk. I remembered a tool supply place in my old neighborhood and called them up and opened an account. I thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of all this time I have on my hands to do something I love…tools! I used some money from my worker’s comp check to start a web site and started experimenting with ebay. I sold 2 cases of batteries around Christmas time and two other sockets sets. My wife insisted ebay was not the forum for tools and based on the $184 I owe them, I’d have to agree. Where the heck was the guy that noticed my store was closed when it was opened? So, I sit at this computer for 45 minutes at a time and try to finish this web site which isn’t as easy as I thought it was. My wife emailed me the link to this site and thought it would be good for business. I read a few of the entries and thought to myself that this is a group of guys I’d love to hang out with. I saw other guys advertising their sites on here and thought it was a good idea. I’m not looking to get rich off this, heck it would be hard to do that with the prices I charge. My idea was one dollar from 200 people a week would supplement the worker’s comp check and keep the wife off my back. If you check the other sites and their prices you’ll see what I mean. I carry over 6000 products and most of them are only marked up a dollar over what I pay. Contact information? Sorry…I thought an email address was enough being as though I’m on this thing all day long. No one has ever had a complaint about the response time with my answering emails. Well, if it’s contact information you want, my name is Walter Peters and my address is PO Box 1172 Syosset, NY 11791. My Phone number is 631.371.1478 but I don’t use it on the web site because it’s a cell phone and I do pay for minutes. I’ll be sure to get an 800 number just as soon as I can afford to do so. I’ve been workin’ on this damn web site everyday for 6 months and I still can’t get the damn PayPal right. Well, hope that answers all your concerns. I’m really not looking to screw anyone, just looking to make some money to feed the family. Maybe I could stick around awhile and we can all be friends?

I've deleted my post, and nobody died and made me hall monitor, but you really should contact Ryan (site owner) and talk about paid advertising and/or where the boundaries lie in terms of posts about your products.

Posts which are obvious adverts and add no content - "I've discovered this great site which...", when it's your own site, annoy the other users (as you've gathered !) and most forums delete them and ban people who post them, but nobody wants to see a legitimate store fail to prosper.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to read my post. I do apologize for the "spam". That was my brother's brilliant idea, and I thought it sounded good at the time... he was only trying to help his lil brother out. Oh well, you live and you learn. They did delete his account after writing that and he was kinda annoyed, he loved his screen name. If you'll take the time to notice I signed up after him using my web address as my screen name.. (they deleted that as well). When my wife emailed me this site I was more excited to see that there was a forum like this and never meant to decieve anyone. As the brain in the family points out now, the proper thing would have been to introduce myself. Sorry for not doing that! So, if we can all be friends...Hi my name is Walter Peters, and I am starting a web site assuring everyone can have their dream garage... just as I always wanted.

Honesty is the best policy. I think a straightforward approach would be a lot more accepted and appreciated by most.

Working out a business plan is also a good idea. Online sales is about the most competitive marketplace that has ever existed.

I mentioned this site www.indsupply.com in another thread but I'll plug it again. The website is not very good; attempting to do a search on their site doesn't work very well, and you can't put in part numbers or manufacturer names. You have to call or email to get quotes. I've ordered some Williams stuff from them, for pretty cheap.
If you order from the website, shipping is free. The problem is that you can't find the item on the site. I emailed asking for free shipping on an item that I couldn't find on the site, but they did stock, so they gave me free shipping.

I contacted them recently about getting a 24" proto breaker bar. Most places I called sold it for $50-60. www.indsupply.com had it for $35, shipping included.

They state on their homepage that they are re-doing the site, so that is probably why it doesn't work very well.

I like the snap on and matco sites, they seem to work pretty well.

Armstrong, MAC, and proto are not very good webpages, in my opinion.
