makita 18v drill

I have decided to buy a Makita 18v drill, I don't want a hammer drill, will be used mostly in an automotive shop, drill metal. Which one should I get, they have lots of models.

Pretty much any Makita drill would be good. But IMO, if you're going to be drilling a lot of metal, you'll want the Makita XPH-07. It is a hammer drill, but it comes with a very nice chuck, and a tougher gearbox than the other drills.

The hammer drill is more widely available. I prefer the drill/driver. They both have 1090 in. lbs. of torque.

The brushless hammer drill is great, with a 2ah battery its a nice light tool but has loads of torque. I've never used the hammer mode, but it came up at the right price.

seems silly the hd hammer drill is 50 bucks cheaper than non-hammer version

I'd also at some point pick up the 1/4 impact driver which has like 1,500 in-lb's of torque and can drive large fasteners and bits through pretty much anything. If you already have the charger and battery, it's a cheap add on of about $50-$60 depending on where you get it. I bought a used one off ebay for $25. I already had one, but it was nice to add the 2nd one to my arsenal for $25.

I was helping a buddy repair his deck, and I handed him the 2nd impact driver so we could work faster.

^^ I have a Makita 3 speed impact driver, and it's so useful I'm tempted to get the XDT16Z
