makita 7.2v cordless impact driver

has anyone used this thing? it looks like a regular cordless screw driver. is it accually an impact driver or what?? i work on copiers all day and this would be much easier to carry than my big clunky ridgid 9.6 vold screw driver. i wonder if it would just twist the head off if a 5.5mm macnine screw.

Take a look at the LTC203W kit. It has a drill driver & an impact driver. The drill driver does have an adjustable clutch.

that is not a good driver if you are looking to have any kind of control. IMO you would be happiest with the new Milwaukee 4 volt Lithium-ion driver. I bought the Makita to replace my old 2.4 volt Milwaukee that would not hold a charge anymore, the Makita has no clutch, the new Milwaukee not only has a clutch but when it hits the torque setting it actuality turns off the motor, so you are not hammering on the screw.

I'd look at the Milwaukee M12 line since it has a few other tools that work off of the same battery platform like an inspection camera in addition to the impact driver and regular drill / driver. Mini Sawzall and Tubing Cutters look interesting too.

Makes me wish I had waited and bought the Milwaukee line instead of Bosch when they were running the promo last summer.

My son got me this set for Christmas. So far I love them. The drill has the normal Makita adjustable torque etc and works great for small hardware. I put metal shelving together with 1/4-20 hardware, for two afternoons with it. Light weight and plenty of power.

The impact driver has lots of power, just to test it I drove a 1/4" X 2" lag screw into the edge of a 2X6 all the way. To further tested I switched to a piece of pressure treated and it drove it in a little more than 1/2 way, slowed down when it got to the shank part and couldn't go any further. I was impressed.
