This thing showed up today. It’s a beast. Almost too heavy... but if it’s like the 36v recip saw, the power will be legit. a3f8f74283ec363753983042133c09e3.jpg

I just bought that too. I got it during the recent $250 plus two extra batteries deal. I returned the batteries and ended up paying $150 for the saw, double charger, two batteries, and the bag.

Does anybody have any experience using other than Makita batteries in their tools?
I've had two knock-off 5 AHr batteries for several years. Performance is adequate and I haven't had any problems with them except one likes to have two charge cycles to fully top-up. I mainly use them in my leaf blower.
I got 2 real Makita 5 AHrs a few months ago and am very impressed with how long they last. I'll stick with Makita in the future.

So with all the boxing day sales on now there's likely some good deals on Makita gear floating around. Just wanted to give you guys a bit of an FYI on this one. 2x Makita 5aH batteries for $94.99 USD, from ebay via Hardware Sales Inc. I just ordered a 2x pack so I'll see what the ebay experience is like. Even with exchange and shipping these are still a good $70 cheaper than anything I was able to find up here in Canada.

I have that one for a while. I like the size and weight. It is my go-to impact gun ( I have also got milwaukee mid torque). I wish the makita a bit more powerful.

Yeah I have that impact as well the XWT11, I use it mostly for automotive purposes, as mentioned I wish it had a little more power but it gets the job done. It works great for tight situation spots.

When the above impact won’t remove it though, I grab the big brother XWT08(space permitted) and that takes care of it.
They’re both great tools to have though and have saved me on numerous occasions.

Is that strong enough to take off 200ft. lb. lug nuts?

The big one XWT08 can do that, but the one above XWT11 posted in the picture doesn’t stand a chance. It will remove the lug nuts on my Tacoma that I torque to 100ft lbs, but it’s not touching 200ft lbs lugs. I don’t think there is a compact impact on the market that will do that.

Thanks. I'll get the new mid-torque.

Hoping for some insight from you guys, I'm looking for an entry level circular saw and trying to compare the DSS501Z & DSS611Z. Apart from the obvious difference of the blade being on different sides is there anything else significant to distinguish them? I already use a Makita LXT drill so the convenience of sharing batteries is the big bonus for me in buying something like this. I'm not a big wood cutter but have some 18mm chipboard panels I need to cut.

TIA

Late to the party but bought myself this for Christmas (well, new year's really). Acme had a 10% off deal if you spent $250 so I tossed in a USB charger adapter to cross the threshold which made it free.

Also a gratuitous shot of my power station. Not pictured are my string trimmer, blower, corded circ saw, or corded router

Blade diameter is 136mm on the 501 vs 165mm on the 611.

Thanks, I guess I was hoping for some real world experience to help me make an informed choice.

Looking at the specs my thoughts are the 501 is more compact and includes an electronic brake so might be more convenient for occasional use.

I have the XSH03Z (DHS680 outside US) and I really like it. It’s smaller, but I’ve had no issues with 2x and sheet goods. It’s one of their models that frequently comes in higher end kits.

Thanks, maybe I should move up a model as this one seems to have the best of both the models I mentioned

I started to look up the UK models last night but was having some trouble.

I do think with circular saws the brushless is a good upgrade. I also have the XSH03Z mentioned earlier.

Also, at least here in the states, there is a brushless blade-right saw with 165mm blade. It is in the sub-compact line of tools. Does that line exist in the UK?

I do think the 165mm blade is a good all around size.

Thanks for your input, tbh the Makita website is a real struggle to navigate if you're not that familiar with the specific tools...there probably is a sub-compact range but it doesn't stand out, I'll carry on comparing models against the XSH03Z/DHS680 as you guys have first hand experience of it

I like the 12v stuff, so about a year ago I bought the 3/8 drive impact wrench WT02 when I ran across it at HD. Figured it would be fine for working on the motorcycles.

Didn't use it for a while, and then found it very disappointing because of the low torque. Perhaps I need more than the 2AH batteries with it? Still looking for a deal on the bigger batts, but no a lot of Makita stuff around.

Anyone else have an experience with this model?

Makita has announced a new top-end hammer drill, the XPH14Z. ToolGuyD has the details.

Looks to be the new successor to the XPH07Z. Interestingly, the XGT version *does* have anti-kickback.

I won't get rid of it, just won't use it nearly as much. I occasionally have to make some cuts in concrete with a diamond blade and I WON'T do that with the makita.

There are still probably some heavy applications I will run into that the wormgear is the better way to go. The makita appears to be at least a pound, maybe more, lighter and that will be nice on my shoulder and hand.

Well, I spent a bit of time doing some clean up framing the last couple of weekends and was able to give the new makita 36v saw a bit of a workout. It doesn't even blink at 2x4's, 2x6's, 4x6's, 6x6's. Full depth through a 6x6 is like butter.

Ripping 3/4 osb is like cutting paper, doesn't even know its there.

Dry LVL was no problem at all but it did work it a little harder. I had one Big LVL that had been out in the snow and was pretty wet and it bound up the saw sometimes. However, when that was happening, if I pulled the saw out the cut was nearly closing. So, it was pinching pretty good. I actually liked that the saw cuts out rather than kicking back.

I am not going to get rid of my mag 77 BUT I put it in a tub packed up with stuff I don't plan to use very often. This new 36v makita is MUCH more than I expected.

I am bummed, I have 2 3ah batteries that don't seem to be working anymore, granted they are like 9 years old and have not be treated nice. Anyone tried rebuilding your own packs? You can easily get replacement cells. I don't have a spot welder but I think the case isn't so tight I couldn't solder them together and get it back together. Just curious if anyone has bothered trying. I need another good deal to come up on batteries.

I have the 12v WT06Z 1/2" impact. Same deal, not a lot of torque. I picked it up last summer for $100 (tool only) via Amazon. I'm using the 2Ah batteries that came with my Makita drill/driver set. The WT06Z has a small footprint, so it's helpful when working on my riding mower. But for high torque fasteners, no-go. Just checked the price today, the WT06Z is now $144 on Amazon. Can't recommend at that price.

Links all worked for me.

Do you happen to know if the pin detent design is like that on the XWT11z? One that can still be pulled off without depressing the pin, at least most of the time?

I have one of those and do like it. So far my 52 year old hands don't have a problem removing sockets.

I don’t know :dunno: sorry. I tried googling with out out much luck. I ended up going with the friction ring model.

I picked up the new 18v grinder with the X Lock. Talk about slick..... I got the one with the switch vs the paddle. The HD even opened the box for me and then took 20,bucks off, lol.

They also have a paddle switch. which do you all prefer Paddle or thumb switch ? I have a really nice corded Bosch grinder that I love, etc I’m not sure about the paddle...

Only thing that concerns me is the availability of discs, flap wheels, etc. I’ll have to make an effort to keep that stuff In stock b/c HD does not sell any of it. Lowe’s may, as they have a lot of Bosch.

Yeah, I’m kinda bummed as over the holidays I picked up an XAG04Z, which is OK.

It was a crazy good price, but doesn’t have a paddle, electric brake, or X-lock.

I prefer paddle switches, probably just because my first grinder had one.

I had a dewalt paddle switch, now a Makita thumb switch. I prefer the thumb switch personally. Easier to turn on and lock (the dewalt had a separate paddle lock nowhwere near the paddle) and just as easy to turn off. I could live with a paddle, sure, but I like the thumb switch.

Saw the x-lock models for the first time this weekend and really like the idea but didn't realize they need special wheels. No plans to replace my (fairly new) model for one

I have the “regular” BL grinder I bought this summer. The switch is hard as hell to operate. It has been less than 6 months since I bought it, so I was going to return it to HD. I saw the X lock and was like oh.. must have it. It has a brake, oh.. and it will Knick your finger too. Ask me how I know, lol

I like the paddle switch. It's more intuitive for me and you can stop the grinder faster. Just loosen your grip, no switch to fumble for.

Makita XPH07 Maximum Torque: 1,090
Makita XPH14 Maximum Torque: 1,250: 14.7% increase.
I'll wait for the 40V stuff.
I know for a fact 1090 in-lbs will make your wrist hurt for a few days too.

In other (unsurprising) news, a Makita XWT08Z will easily split a Pittsburgh impact socket.

Pferd has a line of x-lock grinder consumables.

I have been looking around and saw that. I’m not sure I can “apferd” them. Lol...

Diablo has them as well but nothing in stock at my HD. I’m sure they’ll get there eventually if they are pushing the new grinders with x lock.

That's why I bought the XWT18Z. Watched a buddy with his Milwaukee hi-torque gun completely round a bolt, then wreck the socket and the wrench never quit. For my money I do not need to do that kind of damage, I can live with 740 ft-lbs

Pferd stuff isn't bad if you buy it online. They last a lot longer than cheapo consumables, too.
