There are YouTube videos where the aftermarket batteries were taken apart and compared to the genuine Makita batteries. Aftermarket had very substandard internal components. Basically got what you paid for.

I'd never use a non-Makita battery, ever.

Never tried a cordless tool battery, but I (mistakenly) got a fake phone battery once. It started smoking while I was charging it - good job I was around.

I’l go cheap on some things, but never rechargeable batteries, or indeed any batteries!

has anybody tried the cheap fake makita batteries from ebay or wish ? . its the 18 volt ones i have been looking at .
I have bought several. They are okay for the price. They don’t last near as long as the factory batteries though. I have some factory 2ah batteries that still function at maybe 10 years old, and all of my Fakita’s (just coined this term) are long since in the trash.

I got a pair of imitation 5.0 18v batteries about 4 years ago. I use them for my 36V leaf blower. They've been fine, but one of them needs 2 charge cycles to get to a full 100%. They are also much larger than genuine Makita 5.0 batteries. They were pretty cheap and the get the job done, but I will buy genuine Makita from now on.
