I plan to make a purchase of a 1/2 drive cordless drill.I like the Makita brand and have a question I hope someone will answer.Does the color of the drill bear any significant factor to the quality of the drill? Example is the white drill over the green drill. Is their any benefit to one or the other? Both are 18 volts. I was wondering if their is any internal difference, thanks, Ken

The parts breakdown for white tools is the same as the similar green tool other then the shell. White ones always come with lower capacity batteries. Some tools have a tab that makes the smaller batteries not fit due to limited run time (angle grinder, recipe saw, and green hammer drills) as examples.

I had originally heard the white referred to as "compact" series, but there isn't anything really compact about them, except they often have the slim 1.5 ah batteries. Even then, not that consistent on Makita's part, my first kit was a 3 piece kit that was white; had hammer drill, impact driver and recip saw. None of these were anymore compact than their teal counterparts, and the kit had a 1.5 & and a 3.0 ah battery. The instructions specifically stated to only use the 3.0 battery with the recip saw.

Even the part numbers are the same as equivalent teal models; I think they have a "W" for white.

I am a big fan of Makita and find they are a serious, no nonsense company, but they have never really had a clear definition of their white cordless tools.

So to answer your question, I don't believe there is any quality difference. Just find the kit that has the components and price point you want, don't worry about the color
