Well, I found out ( I think ) Makita have the only cordless tools at least assembled in the USA. Might not mean a whole lot, but they are keeping some American jobs here. They do the windings for the motors, make the molds here and do the complete tool assembly.
I do not own or sell Makita tools. I may in the future. A rep sent a list of the American assembled ones. If anyone wants to view it I would be happy to forward his email or try to post it here. It is long. Thanks all.

It would be great if you could post a list of the tools assembled in the USA.

They make the moulds here but do the actual hot injection in China?

If that's true, then that tells you right there that the EPA won't let them inject the hot resin state side. I heard Matco has to do the same thing with their plastic ratchet handles.

As a manufacturer who has molded hundreds of parts at molders all over this country for thirty years, the EPA has never once come up.

And no one would build a mold here, ship it overseas, and ship the molded parts back here for assembly. Come on.

Okay I counted it up. The list has 400 Makita items on it. 61 are assembled in their plant in Athens, Georgia. They said this included mold injection, motor windings and complete assembly. If I was close to Athens I would like to tour the plant. I was born in the " Show Me " state.
Just wanting to post something positive in this crazy off-shore made world of tools. American jobs ? That's a good thing !

Please pm that list or post! Really interested in that! We sell a full inventory of Makitas, so I'd love to be able to tell the guys where what was made if it claims to be stateside.

Great post.

I have Makita 18v:
1/2" drill
1/2" hammer drill
6 1/2" circular saw
Reciprocating saw
Oscillating tool
1/4" impact driver and all say; "Made in China" on them. They were all purchased between December 2012 and March 2013 on Amazon or at Home Depot.

Glad I'm not crazy then. My grinder, recip, and circ saw were kit pieces, plus the 454 hammer drill and original BL impact.

Honestly I don't see the quality difference between "Put together in China with Chinese parts" and "put together in the US with Chinese parts". Partial credit for supporting a few domestic jobs though.

Yes, that was my thought also. Any company that provides American jobs deserves a thumbs up. Thanks for the post about Bosch making product here.
I'm glad to hear that. If Milwaukee and DeWalt did the same that would be great. It may not seem like a bid deal to those of us who are working. If you were unemployed it may be huge. Thanks for the replies !

I've got a Makita 14v cordless drill that I bought about 6 years ago, and it is made in USA. One of the main reasons that I bought it... It's been a great tool. It even survived a couple of 20 foot drops onto concrete (no, I didn't drop it...), and keeps on going...

My understanding, at that time, was their top line stuff ('MXT') was USA, but the lower cost line was China. Good to see their new brushless (LXT) combo set is still made in the USA, as I was thinking about getting that set, instead of investing in new batteries for my old drill.

Makita has always put out good power tools. I used to be a big fan of Milwaukee power tools (corded), but most of their stuff is now China/overseas production. Their China tools look ok, but Milwaukee's old stuff was excellent quality.

So, I look for USA made, if available. If not, put any of the China made stuff in a bag and pull one out, same expectation; a couple/few years, and get a new one...

We got some more in today. So here is what may make these not really made in USA at all. As you can see from my pictures from my first post. It was assembled in the USA. That was a pack with 1 impact, 2 batteries and a charger.

Today we received in the exact same impact but just the bare tool. As you can see on my pictures above it says made in Japan.

So when you look the actual items here is what I see
Impacts all say Made in Japan
Batteries all say Made in Japan and further processed in China
Charger says Made in China

So the item bought as a pack says assembled in USA. So we are talking about maybe the plastic case and the cardboard sleeve.

A little misleading. I will note though they are very nice and I dont mind my electronic anything being made in Japan.

So I would not really say anything Makita cordless is truly Made in USA. As you can see these are there top of the line impacts. The bare tool alone was almost $200

Makita makes both consumer and industrial grade tools. I work in aircraft manufacturing and we have custom USA made Makita drivers with preset torque settings. The batteries and chargers though are China.

I spoke to a makita rep at the grainger show about these. I will look for the info. I think it was Makita Assembly or something like that. He said they could be programmed to do a set number of revolutions and all sorts of cool stuff

I went back and searched the Makita part #'s "country of origin" list the rep sent me again. Of the 400 items the 61 assembled in the USA, only 2 turned out to be cordless products. LXPH01A 18 volt Cordless 1/2" Hammer Drill and LXT211A 18 volt cordless 2pc. Combo Kit. The rest were sanders, grinders, polishers, routers, planers etc.
I let him know I was posting this info on a forum and I was also interested in how many Americans that plant of theirs employed. That was 2 months ago and no response. ? I don't own or sell Makita tools. I did like the idea they provided some jobs here.
