I just bought the Makita CT226 12v CXT drill driver/impact combo at Home Depot for $99.

I needed a compact driver to fit in tight places like the custom pantry cabinet I was installing yesterday.

I've never used an impact driver to drive screws before. At just 12V, it allowed me to easily drive 3" screws where my 20v Max dewalt drill wouldn't fit. So far I love this little lightweight set.

Here is my 18v dewalt(the cheap $99 one) next to the 12v makita drill and then the impact in the front.

I have the previous makita 12v max generation and used them professionally. Can't complain about makita at all, that's a very good price too. I may look into picking that set up.

I have quite a few of the 12V Max tools. I hope this new CXT line doesn't replace them entirely, I really like the compact profile of the stick battery.
That said the new CXT looks really nice, perfect homeowner set or (like the OP, and me) a compact set to augment an 18V lineup.

What are your thoughts on these tools now you've had them a while? They have just been released in the UK now, not quite such a bargain price at around £140 though!

I don't use them everyday but for small projects around the garage and house. They seem to work very nice and powerful for a nice compact and lightweight drill and impact. I really like that they are lightweight and small so they are easy to fit in tight places.

I picked up a set of these at Home Depot the other day for $89. They're listed on the HD website for $139, but $89 was a "Price Drop" price at my HD -- maybe they are that price in stores chain-wide? I thought $139 was a good price compared to the other 12v drill -- at $89, this kit is a steal. The drill seems a tiny bit less powerful than my 18v Ryobi, but I expected that. The impact driver seems to be more than adequate for my needs, and has more torque than either drill, which, again, I expected. I just used the impact driver for the first time today to put up a small piece of drywall and it worked very well; I haven't used the drill yet, other than test-sinking a few screws into a scrap 2x4. I'm interested to see the other tools that come out in this line. Very nice size and form factor.
