That makes two of us. At least that I can remember. The only other set of sockets I've seen with that style of rubber holder is from Lisle and it's only on some of their torx/hex socket sets.
As for the chrome vs. impact, unless the socket wall is too thick, the difference won't matter.
That said, I have both the 1/4" and 3/8" Makita sets for both metric and SAE. My only complaint would be one of the SAE sockets doesn't have any roll stamps/markings on it. The rest do. Between the 4 sets it covers most sizes and if that's the only flaw, so be it. But I've never had a need to use them, my go to mainline 1/4" and 3/8" sockets are all Snap On. The Makita sets are really just spares at this point for the metric and the SAE are part of my small collection of never/rarely used SAE tools.
I have a full packout socket set that I keep in the van, but no reason to drag it out for every job when its really only needed occassionally. Same for wrench sets, I keep a Knipex pliers wrench in my bag, and a set of Tekton tool rolls (and mini wrenches, and harbor freight stubbys) in the van.
These little 1/4" Makitas, paired with a Klien mini ratchet, handle like 90% of what I encounter, and theyre light and take up almost no space in my tool bag, which is already WAY overloaded. I primarly do marine electrical, so I am not doing heavy engine maintenace like a mechanic would be, using a full set of sockets daily.
I know color doesn't really matter, I just like chrome sockets better. LOL
