For the last few years my Makita LS1013 compound miter saw electric brake appears to be non functional. When you use the saw and release the trigger, saw continues to spin for 10-15 seconds and just before the blade slows to a stop it sounds like the brake may be engaging. Checked the brushes and they look fine and blew the motor out with air and did nothing. Any ideas ?

Happened to mine a couple of years ago.

Then it started eating brushes on a regular basis until it eventually burned up the windings.

I think the armature was worn out.

When I tore it down, I found the bronze gears were well worn too.

I ended up donating it to the local high school shop teacher for use as a parts saw. The replacement parts are available, but repair wasn’t cost effective.

I bought a Bosch glider.

Works well and takes less space.
