I'm thinking about making a little tool-investment.

The Makita LXT1500:

I feel that it lacks a jigsaw thou, and I don't see the need for the leafblower, but it's no problem, I can buy the jigsaw seperatly.

I have some makita tools at work, and I'm really pleased with them, except the drill that sank when it fell into the sea, but I guess that it's not the drill fault that it sank...

anyone else have experience with Makita?

My fiance's uncle and father are general contractors and trim carpenters, Both swear by them, and brought the 4-piece (impact driver, drill/driver, light, and sawzall) with them to do some work at my house. Awesome tools, and I plan on buying the set when I get $400 saved up. I'd go for them.

If you have a use for all of the tools in the photo except the leaf blower, then I don't see why it wouldn't be a good set to buy. The Makita Lithium Ion line is always getting good reviews. I'd be buying them if I was in the market for new cordless tools.

My complaint with those types of kits is that I don't want to have to carry around two body bags of stuff and then have to dig thru it all just to get to a drill and charged battery.

You might be money ahead to buy one of the smaller kits where you know you'll use everything and then add miscellaneous tools as you need them.

I don't know about the current lineup but I have a makita 9.6 volt drill that is 15 years old that has fallen off roofs, ladders, built 4 decks and countless other projects and is still going. I did have to buy new batteries (once in the 15 years). The only thing I grab before the Makita cordless is my Bosch.

That's a lot of gear there, I agree about looking at the smaller kits.

I used to be a Distributor Salesman for Makita.
The stuff is good. Part of our training in the GA. plant prior to hitting the streets was tearing down competitors tools and comparing them to ours. Eye opening stuff!!
Do you really need a cordless screwgun & 2 1/2" drive impact wrenches?
The little blower is more handy than you think. It's not for blowing leaves in your yard...but great for blowing out the garage floor and work benches.

I bought a new makita 14.4v drill thinking it would be of the same quality of my dad's 15 year old 9.6v. Boy was I wrong, I ordered it and did not see it or try it out in person, what I got was a $160 blue black and decker, I could have got the same thing in a different color at wal-mart for under $50. It will drill about six 1/8" holes before the battery goes dead. The chuck is a joke so I figured I would change it, yep wrong again cannot change the chuck. I called makita and was sent out a replacement drill, this was no better than the first drill and was supposed to have a better chuck installed before it was shipped. I got the same plastic **** they call a chuck and the same battery life. I called makita back and told them that I was not at all happy with the drill and thought it to be no better than a black and decker but twice the price. I was told by the lady "sir, it is just like buying anything else, you always pay a higher price for a name". That is my makita story, I will never buy anything but dewalt now, at least with their higher price I get a quality power tool.

I bought this same kit back in December and am extremely satisfied. These tools are performing great.

If you need a kit that size, pull the trigger!

I just picked up the Makita drill/impact driver/2-1.5 Ah batts/charger for 280 US total, I really didn't NEED all the other stuff. Should have looked on ebay, coulda saved a few bucks...maybe. Makita Li-ion is unbelievably good stuff! I may look at another impact driver, 'cause if I set it down, it gets BORROWED every single time....

The rest of you probably already know this, but Black & Decker and Makita are not now, nor have they ever been, affiliated to my knowledge.

Funny, you deride Black & Decker several times, and then declare your love for DeWalt? How ironic.
