They charge batteries very fast, 3Ah in 22 minutes, that's probably at 3-4C! This surely isn't healthy for the batteries. But there's a "standard" version of the charger which seems to charge slower, one hour for 3Ah. Has anyone tested both and their effects on batteries?

The slow "economy" charger (DC18SD) does not have a cooling fan.
I have never used that model.
However, i have used the rapid chargers extensively with old and new batteries with no problems.

I got the slow DC18SD charger. I usually recharge the batteries in the evening, so the time saved with the rapid charger is not necessary.

I remember people saying on reviews that you get longer battery life with the slow charger. Not sure if it is true

I have only ever had the fast charger, my original 3ah batteries from 2009 lasted to early 2015 and late 2016, this is professional use in construction. The fast charge is very useful with high power tools, you really dont need that many extra batteries.
