I've been eying the Makita sub-compact (CX200RB) drill and impact driver for months now at HD. This kit comes with two 2ah batteries and a charger. I told the associate my budget was $200. He gave me 10% off bringing the price to $206.10. As as added bonus, HD is throwing in an extra 2ah battery for buying the kit. Retail value 79.00. I then returned the extra battery for a store credit. I used the credit to purchase a Makita XPH102 hammer drill kit....zero out of pocket as it was on clearance (2 left). This kit comes with a 3ah battery and charger. Funny thing, it was cheaper to buy this kit with the 3ah battery and charger than it was to buy just a 3ah battery, which retails for $99.00.
So for $206, I got three drills, two chargers, two 2ah batteries and one 3ah battery. I thought it was a good deal.
Next Makita purchase is the XWT08Z high torque 1/2 inch impact gun.

Pretty good deal. Now that you have the larger 1/2" hammer drill, will you ever use the sub compact drill? Maybe sell that on eBay or Craigslist for $50 and really come out a winner.

I don't think I'll ever use the hammer drill and thought about selling that. The sub-compact is the one I wanted. Home use.

You'll sure regret it when you sell the bigger one and need to drill through some concrete or brick. If you only wanted the compact, why did you even bother getting the larger hammer drill? Just for the 3ah battery? For home owner use, two 2ah batteries would be more than sufficient.

Yes, got the hammer just for the 3ah battery. It's was the cheaper option.
Future state, I'll be buying a cordless circular saw, headger and impact gun (tools only)w hich will all benefit from the larger battery

I've been looking at the Makita sub-compact as well... while the larger drill [XPH07] is more powerful, it also the heaviest I've used.

I think the subcompact would do well for most drilling tasks in wood/steel. When you need to drill crete/block or run a large spade/hole-saw then break out the big guy.

Look on CPO for bare tool bargains or ebay. Sometimes people buy the kit just for the batteries and put the tools on ebay, brand new, never used. Reciprocating saw would be a nice addition, too.

At our local HD, they had the Makita 18V blower on clearance for $39 (usually $99). And they had the 1/4 impact driver with 3.0 amp battery/charger for $59 (usually $99).
