I used to have a Makita 9557PB angle grinder that had a good paddle switch that worked well. I'm now looking at a Metabo 6" grinder with a paddle switch that looks similar to Makita's paddle switch.

Has anyone here had a recent Metabo with a paddle switch and what did you think about it? Was it as comfortable to use as Makita's (if you've used both)?

This is the Metabo I'm looking at:

I read a comment one time that someone said their Metabo paddle switch was very uncomfortable to use, but it may have been their old design, I don't know. It was an older post.

Thanks.

I have a 4-1/2" Metabo angle grinder with the paddle switch and love it. I had a Makita and just fooled with it in the store then when I brought it home it got stolen, never used it so I can't compare it.

I don’t find any issues with any paddle switch. The only issue is the safety which is simply dealt with but removing the pin or just busting it off. After that any of them work perfectly.

I have about 15 4.5" grinders. Mostly Metabo, a couple Milwaukee (both older corded and M18 Fuel) and a Makita Japan.

Most are paddles, some are switches. I can honestly say I've used them all a bunch and never thought twice about it being comfortable or not being comfortable. To me they are all fine. I do have big hands.

I want power and I want smooth. Which is the reason I don't own any cheap ones anymore.

Also, I did not look at the link you posted to the Metabo but there are two lines of Metabo. One German and one Chinese. Do a little research on here and make sure it's the German one.

It is German. It's the only kind of Metabo I'll buy.

I like my WEV-125 vari Metabo, but I dont run paddles, personal preference.

The barrel is kinda fat on those, if you have big hands you should be fine. Both Makita and Metabo make good grinders, not sure if Makita is still making them in Japan tho...

If you are in the market I noticed Home Depot and Amazon both have the German made Bosch 4.5" paddle grinder for $130, definitely worth checking out at that price.

I double checked the price and the box last time I was in HD to confirm.

Here is a link to both-

I have one of those Metabo paddle grinders and it is my favorite grinder. I don't have huge hands, but it works great for me. For some reason, even though the barrel is fairly large on Metabo, they seem to still be very comfortable to use. I have another similar sized paddle switch Dewault and I feel it is unsafe to use - the paddle switch and safety switch are horrible to use.

My second favorite brand is Makita, I have several of those, but they all are side switch, no paddles. I don't think you could go wrong with either brand. I would probably choose the Metabo if I had to choose between them.

I am not a fan of Bosch grinders. The ones I've had didn't even have spiral gears on the bevel, and they run with a lot of noise and vibration.

I have 2 Metabo grinders with the paddle switch, and I very much prefer it to the thumb switch. No issues with them at all.

I have never used a Makita with a paddle switch, so I can't comment on them.
