Makita XWT08M / Makita DTW1002Z 18v HD Impact

Am I the only one in the Makita battery ecosystem eagerly awaiting the launch of this:

740 ft-lbs torque / 1,180 ft-lbs 'breakaway' torque for the 1/2″ drive model.

(Equates to a rather marvellous 1000 Nm / 1600 Nm.)

I cannot wait as I have been really impressed with the latest range of Makita brushless tools - I wish they would release this one in the UK before Christmas!

Well. You just saved me a whole lot of money/hassle. I was about to get rid of my Makita stuff and switch to the Milwaukee camp, all for the 2763.

Posted about this in other threads about a week ago its just been released in Aus/NZ, waiting till I have some spare cash, was hoping was going to be released as a kit with battery's, charger and case but only skin only at this stage.

I presume it will be called the DTW1002Z here in the UK. Not sure why Makita gives two different model names to the same tool.

Nor here but usually there are a number released to tool reviewers ahead of the formal launch. As the tool appears to be on normal retail sale in Aus/NZ I am surprised that a few have not arrived into the hands of the tool reviewers, including those that walk these hallowed boards.

Makita are always conservative with their torque claims so I expect it to meet or exceed its 1000Nm fastening torque / 1600Nm 'nut busting' torque.

I guess they have had to work quite hard on this design given the quality of the competition. It does look pretty promising though.

Apparently it does have a variable trigger, just like all the more recent Makita impacts. With the addition of 3 max RPMs to choose from it should be very controllable.

I tried to find this for sale. I did some research and could not find it anywhere for sale. I did find a news letter that indicated it would be available in February 2016. I may pick this up. This has a high torque rating 740, which could change. I have noticed Makita seems to keep refining their tools.

Has to do with Warranty. EU warranty regulations are far more strict than elsewhere.

Not sure about US but powertools carry a minimum of two years warranty in the whole of the EU. All of this included in the purchase price.

By differentiating model numbers you cannot simply buy a cheaper model in the US and then hope to get the full EU warranty. This also allows the tools to be sold for less in the US and be more competitive towards DeWalt and MWKEE.

These guys (and some others might also) ship to the US. I did a checkout and to NY state it was about $38 for UPS. This is all in Canadian funds so it would be a bargain when you convert it to US.

Im stoked for the 1/2" version! I use a 3/8 adapter in my xdt06 impact driver right now and it is fantastic.

here is some video of it. you can't really compare it to the others it is really heavy duty and its almost 1 lbs heavier than the dewalt and you can feel it. But it also hits a lot harder which you can also feel. There is a clip of it removing a seized honda bolt at 4:45 which is incredible as the other impacts would just rattle on it and you usually have to cut those out.

anyone got any experiance of this thing in daily use? im more than likley going to buy one as the specs are great but im new to makita tools in a garage/workshop environment and was wondering if it will hold up well (oils, fluids, **** from under cars etc). also is it as big and heavy as it appears to be, iv heard mixed opinions on if it will be to big as a general use heavy duty impact

Dangit, I don't need to spend any more on my Makita stuff. I have the 325 ft-lbs version and it works fine for the 130 ft-lbs lug nuts on my Ram but it takes a few seconds to break them loose. Not the end of the world but I don't have all that much confidence in it on something like an axle nut. Good thing I don't own any FWD ****! What is the approximate price? I only paid $135 for my 1/2" impact without battery back in 2011. It's saved my **** on road trips several times.

im in uk and its about £250 bare unit or £450 with charger and 2 5ah bats case etc. not bad realy as a snapon cte8850 is about £400 (i have heard)

im looking to but my first cordless impact for wheel nuts, pulleys, bearingb removal, axle nuts etc, anyone who has cordless impact experiance going to talk me out of it?

I'm rather glad they finally upped the ante. I have the Milwaukee high torque impact on my mobile work truck, and the IR w7150 in my own tools, with the old makita impact at home. At 1/2 the power and larger than the others, the old makita impact is kinda ****. I'm hoping this new one works well, I may add it to my home stuff so I can compare it to the other two I have at work.

This may be odd, but I vested in the Makita line for the 5-1/2" deep cut bandsaw, largest capacity at the time of a cordless. I used it today and still have no regrets, I cut a 1x6" board with it in one go by tilting it at the last bit. Great tool, and the drills/etc that I also have are really fine. I've always been bummed, though, by Milwaukee's 12v/18v competition and better selection. Hopefully Makita catches up this year and I can stay blue.
