Any reason to NOT get this kit? Lookin to buy within the next week. Will be used as a diesel mechanic so drill must be good enough to drill through steel. Impact will probably just be used for hose clamps and such. nothin major.

I have the 18v Li-on Makita kit. Drill, 3/8 impact, and light.

I am also a diesel mechanic and I use these everyday. It's nice not to drag a hose around.

dunno what kit your talking about but if its the impact driver( 1/4 hex chuck) and hammerdrill, that's a great kit. I have that exact kit and hands down the best 300 bucks ive spend to date. Impact driver is awesome for things like dashes, hose clamps and if you get a 1/4 hex to 1/4 square adapter it'll take off most bolts 14-15 mm or 9/16 and smaller rust and all. The drill is great as well. Definitely capable of drilling through steel. Batteries are excellent in my opinion. last forever and only take 30 mins to charge when they do die. Charger has a bunch of computer **** so it won't overcharge or heat up the batteries too fast. Makes them last longer. Haven't had another set to compare but 0 complaints from me about this set. By the way if this is what your looking at savvanahhandtools.com is where I bought mine from paid 280 shipped about 3-4 months ago. Cheapest place I found.

Thank you for the tip but actually amazon has the kit im looking at currently for 240. I must have forgot to link it http://www.amazon.com/Makita-LCT300W-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Cordless/dp/B000V2BRM2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337648164&sr=8-1

I think you should get the LXT211: http://www.amazon.com/Makita-LXT211-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Cordless/dp/B001DN1T6M/ref=pd_cp_hi_1. At least the batteries are 3.0 Ah not 1.5 Ah like in the white kit. And the blue kit is supposed to be built for professional use.
was just gonna post this. The white kit is lighter/less power. Green is heavier/more power. Really not a big difference. White driver weighs 2.9 lbs and green weighs 3.4 and green has about 10 ft-lbs more torque. Green kit comes with bigger batteries(taller not wider) and last twice as long between charge but take twice as long to charge(30 mins isn't exactly long though). Also I've read there have been some quality issues with the white kit . For a extra 40 dollars and being your working in a heavier duty environment I would consider the green. But its your money not mine. Amazon has same price as where I bought mine.

Damn. The white kit looks awesome but i will take performance over looks anyday. And i never really had a need for a light anyways...might just have to go this route instead.

I bought the Makita LXT218 kit about 6 months ago. It's the 1/2" Hammer Driver-Drill (BHP454) & 18V LXT Impact Driver (BTD141) I added the BTW450Z 1/2" impact (bare tool) and I would definitely buy again. I used the 1/4" impact driver the other day to drive 4" long 1/2" lag bolts with no problem. The 1/2" has never failed to remove anything I've tried yet. So I see not reason to stop from getting them.

I doubt the light is really worth it anyway. Plus later you can get the 4 piece auto kit(3/8 impact wrench, heavy duty 1/2 impact wrench, regular drill, and light, with 2 batteries and charger) take the drill, 1 or 2 battery, and 1 charger home or sell on here or eBay. I've been wanting this set for a while but no cash.i just want those impact wrenches.

There is only 2 cordless impacts i am considering buying. Snap-On and the new Ingersoll-Rand one. Sadly enough i have not found one that matches in specs to those two. And i have been around and used the Snap-On many times and it is well worth the price in my opinion. Simply because with it, i feel that my 1/2 air impact will only need to come out for the really serious jobs. The Ingersoll on the other hand i have never even touched but hopefully its numbers arent lying.

for what its worth a couple buddies I have(pro mechanics as well) have the 3/8 IR and love it. They use it on stuff I know the 3/8 Makita won't handle. But its expensive, they hate the battery, and youll have 2 different battery setups. Obviously isn't not a dealbreaker for you but some people like to have 1 battery system for all their tools.plus its alot larger than the Makita 3/8 which has the same body as the driver but has 40+ more ft lbs torque. Those torque #'s On the IR and snappy are so damn tempting though I must admit

I also have the Makita 1/2 impact wrench. The Makita impact wrench was made in Japan though. I used it to remove the crankshaft bolt on my Buick Regal and it did that with ease. I'm not a professional mechanic so I haven't run into bolts that it could not remove ...yet. The only drawback of the Makita impact wrench is that it doesn't have the variable speed control, just full force every time.

As smothers33 said, if you have the drill and impact driver set, it makes sense to get the 1/2 impact wrench as well. It's always cheaper to go with tools in the same system as the batteries are already there.

I use the makita 18v impact & drill professionally for hours a day. I run through both batteries each day & charge them when I get home. They work flawlessly. Just make sure they're powerful enough for you and you won't have a problem, promise! 3 year warranty too, I think you get 1 year on the battery or 150 charges, whichever comes last.

Thank you for the responses guys. Very enlightning stuff. I think i will just have to pull the trigger. Im still sure i will go with a different impact though. It doesnt botherbme to have a different battery system because this is ultimately the cheaper way to go. Becquse if i went all snappy (only one that offers everything i want with as much power as i want) it would cost me well over 1000. Have used a SO drill and while nice to me i dont drill enough for a 500 drill.
