Funny thing but just this week we had a GJ member post up his Mall Drill and I promised him some pictures of Vintage power tools from the Mall Tool Co.

This was the link:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5386397

So without further ado the pictures I promised and a few words of their tool History are in order.

Some confusion exists on the exact year from the web stories, it was either 1920/1921 and it was started by Arthur W. Mall in Milwaukee,Wisconsin and one year later he moved to Chicago.

For sake of argument figure they were in business from 1921 till 1956 when they were sold to the Remington Arms Co.

1964 Remington Arms International formed in 61 was dissolved.

1969 Remington completed the sale of its power tool business to DESA Industries.

1975 sold to AMCA Master Consolidated.

2008 Filed for bankruptcy.

Links and pictures to follow (I need two pages).

I stumbled across this Mall planer on Craigslist, thought I'd share pics. (I didn't buy it- seller asking $100 which I think might be a bit high)

Thanks for the history lesson Woody. Lugz, I was about to say that planer looked like it needed an old springer bike seat on it with some foot pegs.

It's almost big enough. I haven't measured yet but guessing 2' long. I need to figure out why there is a pinch bolt on the front knob. Perhaps to adjust the infeed? It looks adjustable, it's a steel plate vs the rest being AL, and looks like it moves.

We've got Mall power tools. It's time for a hand tool. Found this last week. I didn't know they made wrenches. The only two Mall wrenches on e-bay both have the same opening sizes as mine. I wonder if this wrench was made as an accessory to (and sold with) one of their power tools?

Double open end, stamped steel, 6.75" long, 3/16" thick.

I posted this on another thread but Ill add it here as well. Picked this Mall chainsaw up at at estate sale for $6. After changing the plug it works awesome. 18" bar. Not really sure when I would use a corded saw though... But for $6 what the heck.

My apple trees are right next to my garage. So that would be sweet to use. I use a corded saw-saw now.

Thanks Woody!

Mall / Mall Tool Co., 7880 So. Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL / hand-held power tools / est. 1921 acquired 1956 Remington Arms / http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=1183 / https://www.madeinchicagomuseum.com/single-post/mall-tool-co/ / http://progress-is-fine.blogspot.com/2012/04/vanished-makes-mall-tool-co.html / https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/mall-tool-company.315796/ /

The company held no fewer than 85 patents

1947 Mall Tool catalog (International Tool Catalog Library) (at 7740 So. Chicago Ave.)

a 1954 advertising brochure shows them at 7740 So. Chicago Ave. (International Tool Catalog Library)

the 1948 ad just below has them at 7702 So. Chicago Ave. and inexplicably another 1948 ad shows them at 7880 So. Chicago Ave.

What brought this to my attention was a new listing on Craigslist for a model 9000 "Portable Electric Lock Mortiser":
