Man cave engine light-#2 pg2

Today I was bored pulling apart a blown engine I got from work, so I decided to make a light for the man cave! This shade is only temporary.. Sorry for the bad phone pics but its all I had.

COOL, I want one. A mini V twin! I would glass bead the jugs and trade the lamp shade for a black one w/ Harley logo (they're out there). Nice job, very creative.

Very nice. For a shade you night consider a stainless colander.

That's really neat. What about a motorcycle half helmet for the shade, lots of options for style.

Put a couple of plastic cups in the jugs for pens, pencils and a machinest rule. That is a very neat and functional idea you did there, thanks for sharing your idea. That gives us non creative type like me ideas to expand on.

I think it's already in his living room, I see plants and stereo speakers as well as an arm on some kind of chair or sofa. Cool use of otherwise useless parts if you can't ride it look at it.

Fantastic job, it looks awesome. I'm not sure which side I like more, the gears or the stator. Maybe rotate it every few weeks for a different view. :lol_hitti What about a small interior light inside the crank case? :dunno:

What kind of motor was it that you started with?
Thanks

This is kinda a WAG, but I'm a thinking a Briggs V twin. :headscrat

If you soda blast the fins & crank case etc it will be like the difference between those 2 pistons in finish :)

:+1:

Thanks for all the complements and input everyone! It was a spur of the moment project, I hit up my powder coater to blast it but he never got back to me, eventually ill get it done. I like the helmet idea so i tried one of mine, not going to cut this one up haha, need to find an old one. I was thinking of getting a new plastic gas can and using that, the red might be kind of cool, or get a new round metal gas can and cut it into a shade. Also I set the pistons in all the way so it could be used as a drink holder or something (rods were shattered so they couldnt be reused. It would be cool to put some sort of light on the inside to light it up, or put in 2 flood lights as pistons and have it shine up the walls. Also i drilled a hole through the case in the back and threaded the camshaft (upper gear) then put a bolt so it doesnt fall out on one of the kids.. This is in the basement (man cave) already, I dont think the wife would like it upstairs hahaha. Info on the engine is in the pics.

That is cool. I did something similar recently but you have a much better starting point. I like it when you can incorporate something functional from the item when re purposing.

Don't mean to hijack

I wanted mine to be switched by part of the motor. I ended up using the crank to switch the light on/off. I added some spacers so you could see the valves opening.

Check out how it is switched in the video.

SWMBO has since suggested an alternate location be found for the lamp.

It's all good I like seeing others work it just gives me more ideas! Another thought I have heads for this that could be used a coasters, or something still trying to find something for them to do.- I saw your coasters lol. I like how you incorporated the switch into the engine. More ideas now.

I decided to use the rest of the engine and build another light. I used the heads and valves for this one then fabricated an "exhaust". I will probably do some paint on this one or carbon fiber the exhaust.
