Im looking to add some "security" on my mandoor and windows of the garage. now i dont live in a bad neighborhood but my garage has a ****** homemade door of plywood and some 2x4s. the windows are original from the 60s single pane and very low to the ground. infact one is already broken and replaced with plexi glass. the windows are easy, ill add some rebar and make like jail bars LOL,

anyone got any pics of things theyve done to their windows/ doors? id like to build some type of security gate or something but i dont want to dump too much into this garage as i may tear it down and build new sometime in the future.

Are you looking to keep people out, record the perimeter, or sound an alarm/text message if opened when not disarmed?

mostly physical barriers, metal bars etc, at work we have rebar across the windows and interior bars across the insides of doors so if you try to kick it in you cant get in, but those must be removed from the inside. id like to keep the mandoor access if possible. although i hardly use it. would just be nice to use when my openers take a ****. which they seem to do fairly often.

Dependents.... my house the basement windows are bars... not that it is a bad neighborhood... just a deterrent in case some one sees an opportunity...... they are made of angle steel for the frame and 1/2 square stock and some decorative S shaped scroll flat pieces...

or

you can always fitted a wooden dowel on the windows to limit the opening heights of a windows ... it should work with 99% of the windows that slides up and down... .

Some 1/2" pic pipe painted black and fastened with straps would fool alot of people till they made entry. Sometimes all you need is a deterrent.

Running 3 inch screws in the hinges and jams makes a door harder to kick in. That, and a steel strip on my doorjam stopped someone from kicking in my door (had to replace the door after)

Buy a new metal door about $225, security hinges, hung so it swings out install an anti-pick plate about $12 from Home depot. In the long run probably most cost effective and labor saving way to go. Trying to reinforce a plywood "homemade" door seems futile.

Hi there!
I am about to move in a house with sliding doors and windows. Where can i find locking devices? I have seen draw-like locks in the floor of my friends doors, in the states we had simple devices with a bracket and screw. I can not use a wooden pole (the word escapes me now) as someone installed all doors and windows so the slide not he outside rail so a pole would be futile. Do you thing the security gates here is a good idea?

Where is 'here'? From your post it sounds like you're not in the United States, so it will help others to know where you live so they can recommend products available there.

we keep 100 lbs of dog food in several containers against the front door since we rarely use that door. They are easy to slide out of the way but they would help resist a kick in. The windows are dual pane and I use wooden dowels in the bottom of them and the slider when we are gone and at night, and the whole house has an active alarm. Safe area generally but it is California and homeless continue to grow in number. Next door gal doesn't keep her place up and she got the front door kicked in by a homeless person. He also tried to lift my garage door but failed. Heavy duty motor system that we lock when not in use, and the hand pull is wired closed so if someone does the coat hanger open the garage door in 5 seconds trick that doesn't work either. And I have no ethical issue defending myself with the 2nd amendment.

Go with the pre-fab, steel framed door.
You can salvage it when you re-build.
