Hey guys, new to the forum here and I'm looking for some information. I tried to search, but when I searched for "man door" it brought me almost every door post out there. What I have is a commercial roll up door, actually two of them, 12*12 and want to put a man door in one of them. These things are popular in Britain and Bangladesh based on the car shows I've seen, but I can't find a door guy in the states that even knows what the hell I am talking about or what they are called, if they are called something special.

It looks to me that it might just be some angle iron welded in a frame that is mounted to the door frame itself and the portion of the roll up door is cut out and welded into the frame that has a door handle and striker on it. I did see another one that looked like it might have been a regular metal frame door that was boxed on the bottom, hinged to the door frame and the door slid down over the frame when closed. Any advice you guys can give me is much appreciated.

The other pressing issue is cooling the metal building in Las Vegas, but I'm sure there are plenty of good posts over in the A/C and heating section.

Hmmm.....I remember those in repair shops but the last one I've seen was years ago except these: Google "FDNY FIREHOUSES" there are a couple with the doors I think you're looking for. Haven't got a clue where you'd find one. Sorry.

We have one in our shop. We share the building with a garage door company. They got it and installed it . I don't know the brand but I would think another GD company could find it.

I think what you are looking for is referred to as a walk-through or pass-through garage door.

Thanks for the info guys. I've called a few places, including the manufactures of the roll up doors, a probably half a dozen or so local guys and even a couple of national guys. They all act like I'm some kind of ***** because they've never heard of such a thing and since they've never heard of it, it cannot exist. If you guys have any suggestions, I'd be open to them.

Roll up or Sectional Door?

Can't say that I have seen them in a roll up personally although a company does make them:

http://dayandnitedoors.com/pilot-pass-doors/

I have seen quite a few in Sectional and spec'd them for work:

For Industrial Doors:

Mine is a roll up, not a sectional.

I've seen all of those, but the day and night one. Mine is a true roll up, can't remember the manufacturer, they are out of Arizona. What I'm looking for is big in Britain, I've seen it a few times on Wheeler Dealers, and some of the other shows there.

With respect to the day and night door, the ones I typically see are made from the remnants of the old roll up door in some sort of frame. I am pretty sure I can build this myself, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there that had done it and had any tips or tricks.

On edit: I did see the Day and Night one before, I called them and the guy was a total ****. I called again a little later and no one knew what I was talking about even after pointing to the fact that it was on their website.

My older garage has one in the center of the front roll up door. The door is all aluminum with glass windows. I'd take a picture, but I haven't returned from Myrtle Beach bike week, yet.

redhead, can you get some pictures? I'd be curious as well! I've seen a few on sectional doors, but never on a Rolling Steel. Can't seem to wrap my head around how that would work properly, considering they travel up and down in guides..:headscrat

I can only assume the door in that dayandnight picture does not open all the way.

I missed the coil door part of your original post. My door is a sectional door. Don't know how you could do a door in a coil door.

The pass door is on a hinge and the roll up door rolls up and down around it. If you left the pass door swung in, the other door would come down, and you would have a hole the size of the door in it.

Our shop has a door that was installed new last year by raynor door with a pass through door it swings outward and has an aluminum perimiter to stop it from opening in so you dont even have to worry about it being locked when the overhead door opens . the door prior to this one also had a walk through that a door company added and it opened inward many times someone opened the door without locking the pass through and when they did the pass through would crash open , next thing you know 2 people are on a ladder struggling to get the door back closed before the overhead door could be moved its a 12 foot high door so a major p.i t a . so when you get one make sure it opens outward you will be very happy it works great

Hi sprech, I take care of the website at Day and Nite Doors. We have a Pass Door Pilot Door page on our website but, sometimes people call it a man door in roll up door so I include that term too. I tend to make these changes and forget to inform the guys here, hence the confusion. Sorry about that!

The way I have seen them is that the frame is attached to the jamb and the coil door is notched around the man door. When the coil is rolled up the man door and frame can be swung out of the way on another set of hinges
