Guys I realize the cost of steel and other metals have gone up in the last few years, however I was simply stating how surprised I was that there was that much cost cutting to the point where a $460 box felt cheaper than a 6 year old $170 box by the same company. I'm not a professional in that I need a pro box. I work on helicopters for a living and my job (military) provides my tools. Because of my job I move around a lot, and two 26" set ups make more sense to me for weight and portability than a 50"+ box.

The basic box of 6 years ago it still the same quality as the ones you get now. It would help to determine what box you had to compare it with. The basic tool chest setup does not cost 460 dollars even at full price. I sound like you are comparing a higher grade box to a basic line. Which is 2 different animals. And 460 sounds about right for their higher grade boxes.

^This

They have different lines

Basic
Quiet Glide
Ball bearing
Ball bearing Grip latch
Professional

Likely some other ones as well.

I have at least one of each and they all work well for their purchased purpose.

My Basic holds sandpaper and sanding blocks, welding gloves, paint strainers and other light weight stuff

Quiet glide holds screwdrivers, needle nose pliers, timing light, vacume guage etc.

The heavy stuff goes in the better rated boxes
