Well as I said before the inside of my new garage will not be worked on until spring. So for the winter it is just storage. Well today here in CT we are having some bizzare January weather. It is 66 degrees outside. In January in Ct, unreal. So after lunch today I opened up the doors to let the garage air out. I thought I might share some pics.

I have 5 cars in there for the winter. One is 2003 Acura that belongs to a friend. The Aqua and White 47 is mine. The purple 47 is my dads latest project. The Bentley is my father-in-laws and the copper 38 Chevy belongs to a good friend. I painted the flames on the 38.

I really don't have any plans to ever have 5 cars in this garage again. It's only because this winter it has no power so it became a storage facility.
In the future it will be a workshop for no more than two cars at a time. Time will tell!

My plan is to have the sign go over the door and pump. I think it will look good. Since they are both the same hieght I think it would look better than just over the door. I do like the idea of using construction paper.

X2 agreed. Just from what I could see in the 1st post, my wife would kill for that front porch of yours. The attached 3-car certainly does not **** either. With the new shop, looks like you've got QUITE the place!!!

Have you bought a house yet? How does that Tig work? I haven't heard from you so I assumed it is working to your satisfaction. I left Liberty, I am now a Tech. Rep. for a paint company. I am loving the new job. You should stop by sometime in the spring and check everything out when the garage gets finished inside.

This weekend if the weather holds out we are going to dig the trench to bury the electrical conduit. Yesterday I picked up most of the electrical supplies. On Monday I have a friend coming over to help me start the rough wiring.

And then I will start the insulation ans sheetrock faze of the project.

So now that we have nice weather I am sure to be back doing reguler updates.

What material is your driveway made of? I have crushed concrete, but it gets soft and washes out. Yours looks sharp,especially bucause it doesn't look like it will muddy the tires after a rain.

No I don't. I do know a bunch of those guys though and I attend some of their various swap meets and cruises.

No House Yet - can't afford anything around here. Contemplating moving a little south.

TIG works fine. I haven't really used it all that much. It is hard to control the amperage - because there are only a couple setting - so you have to be really good with your foot and keeping it steady once you get welding. The newer machines you can set the max Amperage wherever you want. Just start the arc and then floor it (yeh right if it was only that easy )

A Paint Tech Rep? - what does that involve.

Liberty is a MESS - they can't even remember who called me and who's looking for what, Thankfully we don't get a lot of business in there.

How far down south???

Liberty has gone nuts, the manager just gave notice this week as well and they lost both appraisors.

I work for Albert Kemperle Inc. in Kensington. www.kemperle.net

They carry six paint lines and have 25 locations in NY, NJ, Fla and CT.
I am the PPG tech rep for them. Basically if one of our customers is having a problem with their paint I go in and try to help them out. That could range from peeling to lifting to color match issues. Also as we try to aquire new shops as customers I do demos and if we do get them I spend some time with the painter teaching them how to use the products. So if they have any questions with PPG or Autocolor I help them out. It is a really great job, I am having alot of fun. WAY better than Liberty.

Boy has it been a busy weekend here in Connecticut. With help from my father and a friend that lives down the street we dug the trench and layed down all the conduit for the electrical and the cable/phone. The power is the 2" and the cable/phone got the 1" conduit. My friend Vic owns the back hoe and made short work of the trench. It is a 150' run and he had the whole thing dug in 2 hours.

I also was able to finish off the rough wiring. I think it came out nice. I have decided to run 9 HO 8' t12 lights. That's 3 rows of 3. I think that should work out great for a 36x28 garage. Each row is on it's own switch, so I can turn on what I want/need. The heavy black cable in one pic is for my compresor.

I now have to have the town out to do their inspections of both the rough wiring and the trench/conduit. Once the inspections are done I can back fill the trench. On Wednesday I have Home Depot dropping off 45 sheets of 4x12 sheetrock as well as all the insulation. My dad and I will hang all the insulation and then I have a guy coming in to do the sheetrock. I thought about doing that myself, but in the time it would take me it really isn't worth it.

Things are really going to start happening fast now!!!!

V10 that would be the color for 12-2 with ground 10-2 is orange and if I recall 14-2 is light blue makes it easier on the older inspectors to be able to tell you used the right wire . Car Nut that place is commin along wont be long now .

At the jobsite we'd always lay the coils out and hit them with spray paint to color code them and keep them from getting mixed up. The wire mfgs finally caught on and started doing it for us!

I have know idea what you call them. I only know that here in CT. they are code if you are running more than one wire down a 2x4 stud. They hold all the wires nice and neat.

Town inspector comes tomarrow in the a.m., I am hoping for the best.
I will have another update after the inspection for everyone.

Now it's time for insulation and sheetrock and then onto finish wiring.

With help from my dad and my cousin we were able to get the garage insulated this weekend. The walls went really quick. The ceiling however really sucked.

I was able to find someone to do the sheetrock for a good price. I bought 45 sheets of 4x12 sheetrock. He should be here next week to get going on it.

Things are happening fast and my wallet is emptying even faster.

Looking good! I know you are supposed to put the paper side to the heated area, but I redid mine and since it was already rocked I put it in from the top down with the paper on the top. Do you really think it makes that big of a difference? Looks tight though - open the front door and the back will **** open too LOL.

I agree that it may, but I find the safety to far outway the lost heat. When I first started my car after the new engine went in I ended up with really bad carbon manoxide poisoning. I spent 7 hours on oxygen in the hospital. They almost put me in an Isoberic chamber the levels had gotten so bad in my blood. I will make some sort of a cover for it when it's not in use.

Well the sheet rock was finished today. I think they did a great job. 45 12 foot sheets. In the morning I will prime the walls and then Monday paint them. It's almost done.

I shopped it around a bit. This guy charged me $1500 to hang it, tapes it w/ 3 coats of mud and finish sand it. In the end it was by the sheet.

I supplied the sheetrock as well as the compound and tape. I figure I have a total investment of about $2400.00 for the suppies and the labor to have the sheetrock done. I was quoted as high as $3700.00 for the same job. So I think I fared pretty well.

I would love to have been able to have done it myself, but the honest truth is that it would have taken me a month to do what they did in 4 days. I think sometimes you have to wiegh the cost vs. the time and decide for yourself.

I've done drywall in a few bedrooms and a walk in closet, and I'll DEFINATELY pay to have someone else mud it. Maybe I'll hang it. Depends on what the contractor I pick says. Sometimes, if you hang it, they charge you the same as if they were to have done it, because of the man hours it takes them to clean up an amatour hangers mistakes. Plus, I'll have to find a friend that owes me BIG to have them help me with that many drywall sheets LOL
