Greetings. I have read someplace that the Craftsman,Ryoby, and Rigid cordless tools were all made by the same manufacture. Is this for all Craftsman tools or just for specific items. My local Sears has the high impact 300ftlb with Lithium Ion 4 amp battery and charger for $179.The Sears line boasts about the 19.2 volts while the other brands are 18. As we are all aware that Rigid has a lifetime warranty if purchased through HD. If I am able to get the same tool for less coin should I take the plunge? Thanks, Ken

For many products, the first three numbers of the Model Number (usually followed by a decimal point) indicate the actual manufacturer of the product

320 is the OEM Code assigned to Chervon

315 is the OEM Code assigned to Ryobi

Bosch (parent company) owns Skil, Dremel, & RotoZip.

Black & Decker (parent company) owns DeWalt & Porter Cable

TTI, OWT (parent company) own Ridgid, Ryobi, & Milwaukee

Makita owns Makita, Hitachi owns Hitachi.

Unless a manufacturer is making their own motors and switches, they are likely using the same parts, just in a different housing.

Just because they're made by same company, doesn't mean they're the same. Each has their own specs and tolerances. Craftsman tools are made by Dewalt (B&D) and Emerson Electric, but in no way is a Craftsman 19.2v impact wrench as powerful as a 20v Dewalt dcf899. What's interesting is Emerson Electric also runs Ridgid power tools, as well as Cman/ridgid vacuums. . Companies make different brands/models so they can cover a larger customer base. Joe Blow isn't going to buy a $400 Dewalt set, but he will buy a $200 Cman set. Black & Decker wants the money from him and the pros.

It is a well known fact that the Craftsman Bolt On is a Black & Decker Matrix, what other current B&D power tools have been re branded?

Within the C3 line the two OEM's I'm aware of are 320 - Chevron & 315 - Ryobi.

Concerning Emerson, OEM Code 113 -

Vacmaster is the OEM of several Craftsman branded shop vacs and has been assigned the OEM Code of 125

08-17-2013,
I will make a good case that the Sears Craftsman shop vacs with a prefix of 125 are Chinese made and are made by Vacmaster. (Chinese made)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The older Craftsman shop vacs with a 113 prefix indicates it was made by Emerson electric.

These new Shop vacs have a prefix of 125. (Can't find info on this)
-----------------------------------------
I did some digging. The part numbers in the Craftsman 12007 have weird numbers like so: VJ51PF.10.04.W2.00 Filter Cage 1

This weird part number is similar to the ones in the Chinese made VacMaster shop vacs.
Example of a VacMaster part number:
VJ01PF.13.00 float & filter cage

Comparing the manuals between the Craftsman 12007 and the VacMAster reveals the same writing and illustrations in both. This implies the manufacturers are the same. (If you compare a Craftsman manual for a product with a similar product from the original manufacturer, you can tell they are made by the same company - same language, illustrations, etc.)

As LB-1911 pointed out most of the Craftsman C3 line is made by TTI and are essentially the same as the Ryobi counterparts. The form factor is different, however, so the batteries are not interchangeable.

20v and 19.2v "max" tools are really just 18v tools, just as 12v tools are really 10.8v tools. Marketing....

Most of the Nextec 12v tools are made by Chervon.

The Ryobi version of the 300 ft/lbs impact is $119 and they've got a special deal (which I think ends today) where if you buy the bare tool they include a battery and charger "starter kit" for free.
