Mandoor on garage track???

Has anyone here seen or actually installed a man door on a garage track so it lifted straight up? I have a 50" wide x 8'-0" metal clad door and that's what I want to do. Door would just lift straight up, saving wall space, and being kinda cool. I have overhead room to do it.Any thoughts or experiences.

Do you already have a swinging door? I may have misunderstood. The door pictured above is a coil door I believe. OH doors come in any width you want.

I have a door already, it's a one piece regular swing type door. I want to install it on a garage track with a spring so it lifts straight up. It won't be sectional, just one piece that slides up.

Though it may be possible, I cannot see how to make that work with an existing door without an extensive investment in time and tons of modification. They make coil doors and probably sectionals the size range you want. you would be much better off looking into something like that.

I would contact a garage door company. They will have the hardware and tracks to make it all work.

My wife's uncle was a garage door installer and put together a 3' garage door from spare parts for his basement bathroom, complete with opener and keypad. It is pretty sweet, a real conversation piece and well done.
You could find plenty of doors on CL that you could experiment with...

The doors they install at loading docks have tracks that tilt back from vertical apx 10 degrees.
They do not go horizonal.
They are typical multi panel overhead doors but in watching them I can see no reason why they could not a single panel.

Im sure it can be done. Wouldn't be much different than one of the screens for your garage door.

That would basically be a vertical lift door. You'll need to get with a Door Co to cut a Spring calculated for the weight of that door, tracks, cables etc. Good luck.

Me I'd start thinking like a pocket door that is vertical rather than horizontal or like a double hung window with counter weights. Make a U channel on each side and use a counter weight on a pulley for balance rather than a spring. On a normal overhead door the load changes on the spring as the door goes from horizontal to vertical and the spring is tailored to that changing load. A door running just vertical is a constant load so a counter weight will work. Now you have to add in the safety features and an opener if you desire.
