Any one have experience or know someone who has experience with the Manitowoc lifts. I have an opportunity to buy a used 9000 lb. 2 post lift. I checked the Manitowoc lift web page and they say they are made in the USA. Will be lifting a 2001 Z06 Corvette, a 70 Corvette, a F150 truck and a Ford Five Hundred.

Thanks.

Manitowoc makes the best cranes in the world, basically. Is it the same company? If so, that alone gets them on my list to shop when I am ready.

Not the same company as Manitowoc Crane, but Manitowoc lifts are US made and high quality. I guess I would call them Commercial grade.

I went to inspect the Manitowoc lift yesterday. The lift is located in Denver, Colorado and is advertised on Craigslist. It is a model CFF-90 rated at 9000 pounds. It is an asymmetrical, clear floor, 2 post lift. It is set up with the overhead crossbar at 10 feet since the ceiling height of where it is installed is only 10 feet 6 inches. The standard height for this lift is 12 feet. It does not have any additional adapters for trucks or SUVs. I ran the unit with zero weight and the motor/hydro unit were noisy. I thought that it would have been quieter. The lowest height of the arms is 5 inches. He is asking $1000.00 for the lift but you need to uninstall yourself or have someone do it for you. The lift is very sturdy. I have looked at a 10000 pound rated Superlift and an equally rated Rotary lift and there is no comparison. The Manitowoc has more steel for the columns, arm supports and overhead crossbar. I spoke with a Manitowoc Tech rep about the lift. They stopped making that model about 3-4 years ago. He mentioned that they make their lifts to support 3 times the rated capacity with American steel like in the old days. Looking at the lift, I do not doubt his statement.

However, I had to pass on this one. In order for me to raise my 04 F150 or my 98 Navigator, I would need an extension kit to raise the crossbar. The kit Manitowoc has for this lift would raise the crossbar 12 inches. The extension kit costs $1100.00 from Manitowoc. I would also need adapters for the arms. They have 4 inch and 8 inch adapters in sets of 4 each. The 4 inch are $308.00 and the 8 inch are $345.00 per set. I would need both sets since I have other vehicles besides the 2 mentioned earlier. I would also need the rubber pads that snap onto the adapters. They are $132.00 per set of 4. The motor/pump assembly is $500.00. If I take half of the stated prices for the extension kit, adapters and rubber pads that would be $942.50. I have seen motor/pump assemblies for more than $500.00.

Cost of lift $1000.00
Cost of ext kit, adapters & pads $ 942.50
Cost of motor/pump assembly $ 500.00

Total $2442.50

Cost of uninstall and reinstall at my location --$550.00
Cost of cleaning up lift $85.00 per hour plus material. I would authorize 2 hours.

I would also need to devise a way to raise my 01 Z06 Corvette high enough to get the arms under the car and at the lifting points.

I have been talking to a rep from Worth Equipment about a 10000 pound rated 2 post lift. The model 10000CF is a symmetrical, clear floor 2 post lift. The price I was given is $2550.00 delivered to a location near me. The lift comes with a 5 year structural warranty and a 1 year warranty on the hydraulics and it is new. I am contacting locals who have purchased a Worth lift to get their input and actually see one.

I have also looked at the Mohawk System 1. The System 1 is a 10000 pound rated, symmetrical, clear floor 2 post lift. A local distributor is asking $5495.00 with no delivery. I would need to pick up at his location. Delivery and installation is $900.00. He currently has some in stock but with the 5 year warranty not the new warranty offered by Mohawk of 25 year structural and 10 year mechanical. The hydraulic is lifetime. Another forum member wrote last June that he bought a Mohawk System 1 for $4600.00. The delivery and installation was included. He lives in Florida.

Funny you were looking in Denver. Last year there was some guy who services lifts for dealerships selling off several Manitowacs. They had been in dealerships for some time and were being replaced.

He was asking $1600/ea. They were standard drive-thru width and assym. Being that I really wanted the extra wide drive thru and symmetrical, and I could get it for around $2600 (BendPak), I didn't deem the $1k savings worth my time for something that wasn't exactly what I wanted.

As for the arm adapters, if they're anything like BendPak they're just solid round stock turned down at one end (to drop into the arm) and bored out at the other end (to accept the male post of the rubber pads). Very simple to make and a local machinist would probably do it for less than the prices you posted above. I made myself a set out of stainless (bling!), but the stock was free to me at my last job.
