I picked up this Manley hydraulic floor jack locally off CL for $50 and I'm in the process of restoring it. It obviously has seen a lot of usage but still functioned, although it leaked a significant amount of oil. It appeared to have been painted orange and then gray at one time over what I believe to be the original red color.
There were a couple pieces that were bent, I'm assuming from an overloaded use but I was able to straighten them using a press. The small front wheel shaft bores had badly worn from a lack of lubrication over the years and the bearings totally shot. I was able to sleeve the wheels, replaced the ball bearings and recondition the roller bearings.
I've cleaned, blasted and powder coated the main parts and re-plated the hardware. My only problem at the moment is finding replacement seals for the hydraulics. The name plate on the jack was worn to the point not much was recognizable but I've been working with HPS trying to find a rebuild kit based on the dimensions of the cylinders.
Lastly the person I spoke to at HPS told me the main two hydraulic pieces, the reservoir and the main piston assembly are press fitted together but I can't get them apart. Can anyone suggest a method of disassembly(see pic). Here also is a pic of the before condition. Thanks
