"Old"???? :wft:

I'm a sight past 40, and can still work my 26 YO son into the ground most days...

I am a sledge hammer fan....probably own 20 of them. Go with the 16 or 20 lb for breaking concrete. Once you have a little room to work dig under the concrete and loosen the soil. Raise the sledge up and let it fall. You don't really swing a big sledge, you let the weight do the work. Just a little bit,of a "swing"... Just enough to keep the hammer under control and on-target is what you are looking for. A big sledge won't wear you out if used properly...I am a 57 year old and I can use a 20 lb sledge all day (yes, I will be quite tired at days end).

The Council looks excellent and has a really exception reputation. Wood handles at Lowes at USA made True Temper and they run right about $10 I believe.

Bull, you're doing such a fine job setting up these group buys, such as the SK deal (seriously, thanks very much for your efforts!)....how 'bout talking to the folks at Council Tool to see if they'd do something similar? They have some beautiful axes....would love to have one, especially as part of a "support the American-made products" effort we all seem to love here.

P.S. - Not that you don't have your hands full...just a thought!

20lbs will get very heavy very fast.

And very dangerous right after that. Wood handles don't last long either. Not from overstrikes, but simply not able to withstand the impacts. Finally got one of those glue in plastic handles from Home Depot and that has held up so far on mine.

Not much call for something this big, but when you need it, you need it.

Use a 20lb Nupla at work. It has a fiberglass handle. Handle is made in India I think. It has held up well. I would say look into a jackhammer.
