I have a couple of nice pens that I keep in the front pocket of my duty dress shirt.

However, for every day usage, I have found Cirrus ( I think that's what they are) seem do do pretty good. They are the ones that are promotional giveaways in the last few years. A retractable pen that writes good and cheap. I can toss it if it gets bodily fluids on it. . .you know the stuff, ****, piss, puke, blood just to name a few.

EDIT:

Whoa, double post and glitch in the matrix. Hit post and GJ is thinking trying to post, so I copy/paste and open a second browser. I see that my post has already been posted not once but twice, but the original browser is still thinking about posting it.

I always had a Zebra forget the model but it would write upside down at -40 which was critical for that job
Current favourite is my Bettoni, swag Victaulic was handing out. Screwdriver bits in the end and the bubble level is a cool feature.

My everyday go to pen is a Zebra F-701 with a Space Pen refill. Feels great, writes awesome (I love the space pen refills), and is fairly inexpensive.

I usually just daily drive whatever I can get my hands on, I can't seem to keep track of pens.

I buy BOXES of blue Sharpies and cheap clicker pens from Staples. Its like, 50 pens for 8 or 10 bucks. Don't have to look far to get them, usually all over the shop. I try to keep one of each in my pocket. I prefer Pilot G2 pens, but they are more expensive and get lost just as easily.

If I was to buy a nice pen, I would want to get a SAGA from Grimsmo knives. I've been following the development of these pens for a while now, and I think they are very cool.

I don't use pencils for writing on paper. I do have a vintage pencil sharpener on my wall in the shop, we use it to sharpen the Silver Streak welder's pencils.

Koh-I-Noor Rapidomatic pencils are my favorite. I bought mine 30 years ago, but I can only find the 0.3mm today. They look a lot like the Alvin Draft/Matic shown above, but the barrel has a hexagonal cross section, not circular.

I lose too many pencils to use anything expensive. I gave up on the classic Ticonderogas; can't get 'em to sharpen correctly any more. I discovered Mitsu-bishi pencils, and they are great. I've compared the Ticonderogas with the Mitsu-bishis, and the Mits are much better. The only way I can successfully sharpen the Tic's is on the side of a grinding wheel. I keep a bunch of Sharpies around as well.

Ticonderoga are my go-to traditional #2 pencil. Cant beat em. Used them exclusively for art and school for years. Great quality graphite and the soft eraser was always a big selling point of them for me. Then I got spoiled to using a mechanical pencil and always go with my Pentel Sharp P205. Still keep a pack of the Ticonderoga's on hand though.

They use to be my go to Pencil forever until Made in China appeared on the box.

For carrying around, my work duds carry work supplied pens, good old blue papermate and a sharpie.

At home, regular yellow dixon pencils scattered around, and zebra zgrip pens. Black marker of choice is the bic mark it (used to be a sharpie until they probably made their ink envirofriendly and it is now more transparent than solid pure black). Got a bunch of staedler and pilot mechanical pencils from my college days, but rarely use them anymore, now it is more convenient to grab a standard pencil and put a point on it with a knife if needed.

Am I the only one who feels like a successful adult when I am able to keep track of a pen long enough to run out of ink? The other accomplishment that gives me the same feeling is using up a tube of chap stick without losing it or running it through the washing machine.

Idk, maybe it’s just me.

I don't think I have ever run a pen out of ink. They get lost or broken first.

Want a "manly" writing instrument? Get a black Sharpie. Want something a little more fru-fruish? Get a blue Sharpie.

Ultra fine point sharpies are super versatile. Use them for everything from layout to signing contracts.

My favorite pens are the ones I "acquire" from the local Lake City Bank. They have the Bics that every other business has. Then of course I like my Milwaukee inkzall, Dixon wooded pencils, and my Markal Sliver-Streak soap pen for marking on steel.

What's wrong with the good ol' carpenter's pencil? Easy to grip, you can sharpen it with a pocket knife, or even on a hunk of concrete... :D

I've used an old school architect's lead holder and the 5# sharpener thing on my desk since I was a kid (dad gave it to me)... Current issue is a Staedtler Mars, they're not as tough as the old steel ones, but they do the trick. Tried the Pilot Precise mechanical pencils, but they break leads more than they write... sometimes old school is best.

Usually at home I have anywhere from 3 to 8 Pilot G-2 pens scattered about, all with pocket clips broken off. I like how the G-2 writes even though it is finicky. But those clips break usually around 2/3 ink remaining in the fill. Then they're worthless for work use, so home they go.

I am intrigued by all metal pens that take these refills...another rabbit hole, thanks GJ.

I think you'll like them.

Titaner Ti - 1500x1000.jpg

Well, for someone who was momentarily trapped in his Ford Explorer, under a tree, i like the idea of the glass breaker - though I am dubious of it's ability. I did have my dedicated glass breaker in my door, but the entire cabin area was surrounded by large limbs, so breaking glass wasn't the way out - I climbed into the rear and that's when I discovered you can't exit the rear hatch from the inside! A passerby opened the hatch and I exited.

So, a glass breaker is nice to have. I'd like to see one of these pens break glass though. If not, it's still a nice pen to have.

As far as I'm concerned the glass breaker and stylus cap are just gimmicks that were thrown on to try to differentiate the pen in some way. Someone might find them useful. I removed them from one of mine to tell the colors apart.

It might be fun to try out the glass breaker.

What I'd really like are screw-in pieces for the ends to indicate the color, one filled with black epoxy and one with red.

I'm partial to the Kura Toga rotating lead engine based on a gear and the energy of you pressing the lead to the paper......keeps the lead consistent. I even looked into having optional all-metal tubes made up to dress it up since the aluminum model is only half aluminum and doesn't have the heft that a quality pencil should have like a rotring.

I have a few nice mechanical pencils but I really have no use for them. When I use a pencil, it is usually for marking wood or even metal for cutting. I have a few carpenter pencils but I like a fine sharp line so I use regular #2 pencils. The biggest consumer of pencils around here is my 6 year old granddaughter. I am periodically given a bundle of dull pencils to sharpen on the old crank sharpener on the wall in my shop. I have been noticing lately that a lot of the pencils I am tasked with sharpening are ****. The wood above the lead at the point cuts very rough and shaggy and sometimes the lead is off center. These are always foreign made pencils labelled Staples or Amazon or bought at the 99 cent store but really, how do you **** up a pencil? When I sharpen a Ticonderoga or General pencil it is always perfect with perfectly centered fine point and glass smooth exposed cut wood. I even took my sharpener apart and tried to "tune it up" but I don't know how to sharpen the rotary cutters. I suppose I could buy a new sharpener but it is 2019 and who buys a new mechanical crank pencil sharpener in this day and age, I would feel like an old fool.

As far as mechanical pencils go, I'm still fond of 2mm lead holders. Nice range of leads are available, you can control the point sharpness, and they are generally pretty idiot-proof. There's a trick of spinning them as you draw that keeps the point sharp.

I've also got Rotring and Steadler-Mars mechanical pencils in 0.3mm, 0.5mm, and 0.7mm. They are good for some things, less good at others. They do save you from needing a pencil pointer or piece of sandpaper. Some of those have retractable tips, which are really nice.

Same here. I collect the freebie pens when I can. If it even might have gotten soiled, into the trash and grab another.

When I had my own business, companies would send me lots of sample pens with my business name on them. So many, in fact, that I never actually bought any. One problem- they have very little ink in them! I was able to run those out pretty quickly.

Because it is always with me I like the pen on a knife approach. It shocks people when you make notes with your pocket knife.

You can't feel the press movement and if you just tap the pencil on the paper the lead will rotate in only a few seconds. This engine combined with their nano diamond lead and the leads are near unbreakable. The nano diamond lead supposedly has synthetic diamond dust in them........I don't know what it is but they write well and seem less brittle.

does anyone make a multi color pen, without the pencil? Judging by reviews, adding the pencil isn't really working out. Jams up, etc. Plus the ink cartridges are smaller. I'd like a two color pen, with red. But three colors, with red is fine as well. Just not seeing much
