Wow, glad to see I'm not the only guy that appreciates good pens and pencils. I'm gonna have to check a lot of these out. Have never heard of many of these. Thanks.

I got it from a sales rep. It's aluminum with inch/metric scales, level and a small interchangable screwdriver bit under the cap.

I was given one of these from one of my students for Christmas. Pretty cool pen. Has rulers on the size of metric and standard and a small level on another side.

I like my Karas Kustoms stuff, all machined and finished in the US. They work mostly in anodized aluminum but also use copper, brass, and plastic sometimes. I think the only parts they buy from elsewhere are things not worth making themselves - fountain pen nibs/feeds/converters and ballpoint click mechanisms.

Looks like 2mm lead. If so what you're after is a lead holder. Lots of really nice options out there for those. Make sure to keep a bit of sand paper to put a point on it or I believe they also have a specialty sharpener for these.. think its literally called a "lead pointer" or something like that. Just search, "lead holder" on amazon.

Here's my 2mm sharpener. It's been passed down through the company and is probably 40 years old, now. All my lead holders are at home, I use them in the garage.

Aka "clutch pencil" and "pencil pointer".

And now I've been looking at lathes and mini-lathes for the last few days because I think it would be pretty cool to start making my own metal pens. Thanks guys... thanks a lot.

I'm partial to the Kura Toga rotating lead engine based on a gear and the energy of you pressing the lead to the paper......keeps the lead consistent. I even looked into having optional all-metal tubes made up to dress it up since the aluminum model is only half aluminum and doesn't have the heft that a quality pencil should have like a rotring.

This is one of the best mechanical pencils there is. I have gotten several people to start using the Uni Kuru Toga pencils over the years.

I would agree a all metal would be great! Tho it needs to be thicker than the rotring 600 (nice weight but feels thin to me)

If you ever figure something out for a full metal tube shoot me a pm. I'd be interested.

These are hard to beat, in my opinion. They don't break easily, and they're easy to keep a point on. I "retract" the tip on mine when I need to throw it in a drawer, bag, pocket, etc. You can buy leads with all sorts of colors and hardnesses. I like them for drafting, and even for woodworking with the softer leads (I prefer them over marking knives).

I've been carrying one of these titanium writing doodads for a year and a half or so and I like it. It almost makes up for the emptyness left from the no knife policy at work.

I’ve been carrying the Zebra 301 for the last 4 years. Writes good and not so expensive that I’m gonna be mad if it disappears. I do need to get me a good mechanical pencil though.

I make pens and pencils as a hobby, and I made myself my own shop pencil years ago. It uses 2mm leads, which I like because you can actually press on them without breaking them, and you can get them in multiple colors.

For my own pencil, I used a black carbon fiber blank and a Vertex gun Metal pencil kit. It has an eraser and it even has it's own sharpener built into the underside of the push cap.

Here it is.

Here's my collection (although I should probably update since I took the photo a couple of years ago and I've added at least 1/2 dozen more pens since then). Also have a couple of mechanical pencils - the oldest is a Faber-Castell that I've probably had for 40 years, but the imprint is so worn that I can't make out the model.
