So I got an old Luxaire oil burning furnace for my detached garage for FREE.

model: OU100MG

series: IAJPE

Trying to determine if I can turn the exhaust piping off the heat exchanger so it comes out the side vs the top. If I can do this I can pipe it directly into the flue that my woodstove is currently piped to (eliminating the wood stove), otherwise the exhaust exit is too high and I would have to make another opening into the flue (concrete block exterior, clay liner inside).

Do you mean have the flue pipe run parallel to the floor instead of perpendicular?

If it's not a forced or induced draft, the answer is no. It will not have any draft.

Yes, turn the exit to the side so that it runs 12" into the chimney at an angle. Not a long run at all.

As long as it's pitched up into the chimney at a reasonable angle, it should be OK.

You need a draft regulator between the furnace and the chimney, field controls RC is what we see packed with most new oil equipment that we deal with.

should not be an issue just don't make a downward pitch with the pipe.

Ideally I want to go out the chimney, the other quick and easy option would be through the window opening (remove window, block off with through the wall piping). I'll see how it drafts once everything is hooked up. It's only a detached garage and the furnace will only be on when I am out there working.

So I removed the 90, ran the vent directly to the chimney at an angle (maybe a 12" run) and it vents fine. The only problem I have is the supply air fan won't come on when the T terminals (thermostat) are jumped on the control board (burner ignites and begins to heat). As far as I can tell the supply fan goes to the high temp cutout on the heat exchanger. When I manually turn the cutout the burner itself cuts out. If I put 120v directly to the supply air fan it runs. I’ll have to probe with my meter to see what the limit switch is actually doing.
