Planning a build table to construct a Locost Car(Locost usa.com). The table is made of 2 sheets of 3/4 4x8 MDF with 2x4 metal studs in between for rigidity.
This thing will be clumsy & quite heavy for sure.

Thinking about a pulley system (like a bicycle lift/storage deal) of some type
Figured I ask you folks about it
Tks for you response

Long Beach CA, the sewer by the sea.
I think the steel studs will be overwhelmed by the weight. That is if you are wanting the table as a reference.

Need more info on what the pulleys are for. We all can't be mind readers. ;) :D

Harbor Freight has all kinds of chain falls, come alongs and the like.

I would be concerned with the amount of weight the ceiling can support. You will probably have to distribute the load from where the pulleys attach.

For sure check the ceiling strength.
They are not built with those kinds of loads in mind.

Yep
Planning to retire April next year, & the Locost 7 will be the proj. I have yet to locate a donor. Rear WD vehicles are getting tough to locate.

Looking forward to getting started

Hey. I am building a Locost myself. My build table is simpler, just a 4x8 sheet of MDF with some 2x4s adding structure. Its stayed flat and solid for several years. A little beat up from clamping on it and welding on it, but still fine. Its quite heavy on its own, but even with the frame, the combined weight isn't all that much, probably under 500lbs all up for frame, a few components and the table. Thats really not that much to ask of your ceiling to support if you ask me. I mean would you be nervous hanging your body weight off of a single rafter? Spread 500 lbs over 4 rafters say and you shouldn't be stressing it much.

I like the idea of lifting the frame and top of the table to the ceiling. I was thinking of just lifting my frame up for the winter so I recover a parking space. Again, its not THAT much weight to be worried too much if you ask me. Most people here will assume a chassis will weigh half a ton, and that's simply not the case.

Hi guys..i to am building a locost 3.8 v6 powered ..i like your idea of raising the build table up out of the way..i suppose they arent that heavy if its the bare frame, we can easily carry my frame with just 2 people depends how strong your beams are i suppose

cheers KiwiDave
