Manual tire changers?

Saw this at Amazon.
Looks 2 steps above the little one I have from Harbor Freight. It's about $146.00 at Amazon.
Does anyone have one that can rate it?
But then I came across what looks like the same darn thing on some oddball looking website. It's $56.00.
Almost seems too good to be true?

Do you have a welder and an afternoon's worth of time? If you already have the HF manual tire changer then Google "HF tire changer modification". There are several videos on how to make the cheap HF tire changer work better.

Thinking ahead.........the manual changers do work, some better than others, it’s all about operator skill and technique.

But......DIY changing tires is one thing, what are doing about balancing ?

Bubble balancing is not usually acceptable for a modern car. Maybe ok for trailer or 50’s pickup, even then that can be suspect.

Your exactly right! Thats why I have a HF modified tire changer and spent the real money on an electronic spin balancer. I only mount about a dozen tires a year and can't justify having a fancy tire changer. Plus once you modify one of these changers and get the technique down it is really effortless and quick.

I have the Cycle hill changer with the no-mar bar. A more money than than HF but better in every way. Rim clamps work out of the box. Even without modification it can do car and light truck tires with ease.

I didn't mention tire balancing because the original poster didn't ask about balancing. He asked about a better tire changer. The HF modifications uses a plastic "duck bill" from a rim clamp machine and basically turns it into a manual driven rim clamp style machine. The "duck bills" are dirt cheap. I think I payed about $15.00 for mine. The rest of the modification was made from scrap I had laying around. So even if I had to by the steel I would still have less then $100 into it. I've seen the Nomar changers. I think for a manual changer there a little overpriced.

I only mentioned balancing because there are 20 other threads on tire changers, that end with oh, forgot about balance and the vehicle now vibrates. Having a changer without a balance plan is almost worthless. As mentioned.......OP a has it covered.

Yes, they are not cheap. Plus.......There are other no mark bars. My thought is the bar must must be addressed unless you work with old rusty steel rims....then it doesn’t matter.

Has a Air operated Breaker Ram. ($125.00 FIRM, The guy was "funny" on the phone. Reminded me of an Old Ornery boss I had when I was 22 years old.........LOL)

I mount them myself with spoons, put them in the trunk and take them to be balanced, $5 each.

I'd love to have a manual machine, but am put off by the cost of a good one. The spoons are a real workout, and I only do it about every three years, so I forget any technique that I've developed to make it easier.

Thats cheap these days.

I mount them myself with spoons, put them in the trunk and take them to be balanced, $5 each.

I'd love to have a manual machine, but am put off by the cost of a good one. The spoons are a real workout, and I only do it about every three years, so I forget any technique that I've developed to make it easier.

Local place, GCR Tire, part of a western chain. I make it easy for them - bring the tires in my trunk, take them out and put them back in myself. They just throw them on the machine, no dealing with the vehicle, takes them less than 10 minutes total.

Phone died, NO GPS! Got directions, Sent wrong.
Asked Another Guy, He had me follow him to The Wrong Road, Lost again, Got Low on Gas, Charged Phone, Called Seller with 2% on My phone.....1% Bam, lost call,
Decided to Come home, was 5 Miles from seller.
Found gas station, Got Gas, Came Home.
Got on Turnpike, Missed Exit for 70 West, Had to PAY TOLL TWICE!!!!!
Had to Drive an Extra 2 hours because of missing Exit.
Had to Use Rest -Room, Gas station/C-Store, would NOT LET ME cause of Virus,
Said OK, Used "Restroom" behind store, Was an Emergency!!
Got Home Midnight.
Did not want to go there again,
Found another one with Manual bead breaker, For $65.00
1/2 Hour away from here.
Nice Drive Full Phone battery, GPS Took me right there.
Brought Home tire machine Thursday!

Thanks, Didn't use the New No Mar bar yet. Just Mounted it to the top step landing and Have some empty rims here, Just Pushed and spooned on the 1st bead. Will try The the built in mounting devise, Or try the No-Mar bar tomorrow. It's for car tires too.

Nice score!!! For balancing you can also try balancing beads. I use them on motorcycle tires and they work great.
