Yesterday I went to use my Mapp gas torch and it was empty. :( This makes me mad because it was still pretty full the last time I used it and I always unscrew the torch from the top after using. I knew I could get no more Mapp but figured I had enough to last a few more years with my occasional usage. I guess the valve in the can leaked and allowed it to empty.

Today I dropped by Lowes and as we know one now cannot buy Mapp gas. I picked up a can of Map Pro that says use only torch designed for Map Pro. Can I use my Mapp gas screw on torch on the cylinder of Map Pro?

Was Mapp gas outlawed or is Map Pro supposed to be better?

Yes, Maap gas is no longer made. Map Pro is it's replacement.

Can't recall the specs, but it is no where as hot as old Maap. If memory serves me right, Map Pro is only about 10% hotter than Propane.

Thanks for the quick answer. I figured as much and am still annoyed I lost my last can of Mapp gas due to a faulty valve in the cylinder.

To answer that, no it wasn't outlawed. The manufacturer who made simply stopped doing so. It wasn't really their focus anyhow. I knew some of the details about the whole deal but I've since forgotten. I think there's a Wikipedia article on Mapp gas that'll fill you in if you're interested.
