I don't mark my sockets as there are already marked and sitting on Hansen trays. I did find an extra 19mm on the 18mm peg....now I know I need to buy an 18mm socket this week

I've marked some of my impact sockets with paint pens. It holds up fairly well and if it wears off it's easy to redo them.

I have the old style Craftsman with the smaller labels, threw them on some Hansen trays and now its easy to see what size they are.

Nothing *that I am aware of* will mark them permenantly, not paint pens, sharpies or those lame stickers that they sell on ebay. Unless you can laser etch them yourself or engrave them... or metal plate them and leave a vaseline outline of the size label so that it shows against the plating.

A friend and I once owned a laser marker/engraver and actually did some prototype sockets for a supplier to an "unknown" national retail seller ... about 6 months later Sears introduced their EZ Read sockets. :headscrat

We have since sold the marker ... but I do have some connections and could possibly get some things marked if the interest is there.

Do any of you mark the size on the socket? What do you use...anything hold up?

After purcashing a set of impact sockets that have the size laser etched on them, I am thinking of ways to mark all my chrome sockets. A friend was talking to me about this saying "...all these years with sockets being so hard to read and they FINALLY have started thinking about this!"

It has to be a given that you aren't going to be able to mark chrome plating permanently. I've never heard of way short of engraving. Marks-a-Lot wiped right off with my fingers. HOWEVER, I did find that Smart and Friendly CD markers are much better! The marks do not come off by rubbing, but will come off with super orange hand cleaner. I think this may be ideal since you would want to be able to remove the marks if you really had to when, say, you were selling your socket set years later.
