Always looking for good deals this powermatic 8" jointer pops up, 100$. Has to be a scam, message the guy he responds instantly, good sign. I ask what's wrong? Does it work? Yes but needs to be adjusted and has new knives.

I question the 100$ and he says that's correct, OK I'll take it. Can I pick up tomorrow? Yes and it's 30 minutes from my project. Get there it looks good, great guy, boss bought him a new one and just wanted this one gone. Gave me a hand loading and shook hands, great to deal with such a good guy. And you can see he was using it up to last week, oh and no charge for the chips, lol.

I sell on FB marketplace and CL regularly, and I get that a lot..."why so cheap?"

My explanation is always the same as the guy who sold the joiner. I'm not out there to maximaize profit, I just want to make room and pass stuff on to someone who can use it.

I've never had a bad encounter with a buyer or seller yet, but that's also because I do a fair amount of 'screening' before arranging to meet up with them. My wife constantly remarks about how well I seem to get along with everyone I do business with, as I almost alway end up shooting the breeze with them for ten or fifteen minutes while completing a transaction.

Recent usage and a clean, rust-free table. Nice!

The more niche something is, the smoother things seem to go.

Not a lot of people want or need a jointer or have the space or even know what it is. And the quick buck flippers have no idea what it is; they're looking to score something they can flip quickly that thousands of people might want.

Assuming you can actually use this machine, you scored well.

This reminds me of the day I cleaned out a woodshop for $800. Jointer, planner, dust collector, router/router table, bandsaw.

$100 for a PM is pretty insane, can't believe he held it.

He probably won't tell you this, but, in another post he mentioned that he already has a Powermatic 8" jointer, plus the Powermatic planer he just scored.

He can use the sucking in his shop right now as a dust collection system.

Keep up the good work and be safe.

You're right this makes two, but i couldn't pass it up for the price. I'm thinking to sell both and get something a little bigger like a 16".

You probably would have lost your privileges here if you didn't buy it.
A 16" jointer in a home shop would be awesome.
I see a lumber mill in your future.

I thought about getting a mill since I have a free supply of trees. Thankfully so many guys in the area have mills it really doesn't pay. I buy rough sawn cheaper than I could cut it. What i do need to make is a kiln drying container.

So rather than go through trail and error adjustments i figured complete disassembly was the best way. Looks like it has very little wear, if any gibs are like new, machined surfaces are good. Like like a good cleaning, lube and set to spec should do it.

Another mp find, guy selling a powermatic 350 12" Disc sander only a couple miles away. Ended up getting the sander and a delta scroll saw for 80$. He was happy I took the scroll saw, lol both work great and have all parts and some extras.
