We had quite a party today at the Monster Garage. We counted around 60 cars so a pretty good turnout. There were so many people I wanted to talk to but it seemed like I didn't get much of a chance to settle in with anyone for long. We had a nice variety of cars but primarily the Corvettes. A very fun day.

We did have a dignitary show up today. Yes, our very own Bob Heine from the GJ drove all the way across the state of Florida to be here today. He is such a delightful guy! In the middle is our very own Deanna who as of late works full time at the Monster Garage as the boss! She keeps all of us organized and keeps the work flow rolling.

It was a rough day with all these cute young girls wanting to take pictures with me:thumb up: (honestly it is my niece and her friend!!)

Congrats on the awesome turn out. I still see a lot of green so 60 could be considered a great starting point for future shows!

Glad to see Bob Heine finally made it to the Monster Garage!

And I had assumed Deanna was running the show, but we still like to let you think you are in charge of it all. But the teamwork that you have working there creates some Awesome creations. Keep on building and having fun!

I was talking with some guys today and agree with you we have plenty of room to expand our show. A suggestion was made to work in a benefit for a good cause so we will be looking into trying to have a bigger show and also do something good for the community as well.

FYI..........the garage was designed and built FIRST! The house was designed to match the garage:thumbup:

Beautiful place, but I think it would be missing something without that tree in the front yard. That thing is cool looking and really adds everything to the look.

yes it does, we have a few of those large oaks on our property...

What do you have to look after all that grass and keep it mowed ? Specially so you can have all those visitors parking on it.

I have a 72 inch Kubota mower. It is one of those zero turn mowers and does a great job.

Hi Mark the corvette looks really nice, your standard of quality is top notch. Looks like
you had a great turn out and the place is a perfect backdrop for the cars. You have some smoking hot women hanging around, must be the aftershave lotion.

Thanks a lot. :D

I got started disassembling the 63 Corvette yesterday. I was hanging on to it until the Corvette party and now its over I am ready to get it apart. My frame is still 3 months out but there are a few things I would like to accomplish. I am going to begin with the dash area. I am considering a custom dash.......a one off. I am preceding with caution on this endeavor but it doesn't hurt to try. I still want to maintain the look of the dash but modify it. Paul Atkins has a fiberglass dash that looks OK but I want to give it a shot myself.

And so it begins! I can't imagine ripping into a '63. I'd be so nervous to crack, dent, break or scar any of the 50 year old parts. It's going to be exciting watching the transformation of this car.

I can tell you the old dirt on this car stinks!!! I have been taking my time and have not messed anything up yet. I too am very excited about putting this car together.

I'd give my left nut for a '63 split window.

I was actually asking for both nut's so I take it you are making me an offer with the left one.;)

I like the C3, lots of work to make everything fit and I can appreciate it.

I'm picturing it in vintage race livery though...

It looks way better in one color, but please tell me the owner is going to put some gloss paint on it instead of leaving it a sating or dull black. To me the whole flat black deal has been played out. If anything, it's time some go back to the "old school" graphics from the 60' and '70's customs. Some fade paint, cob webbing, and so on.

Congrats, Mark! That is turning out to be one awesome car!

With the trailer there, is it going for a ride?

Yep, it is going back to the owners house for a month. With all the bodywork done on the car it needs to "cure" for a little bit. It needs to sit for a while before it gets painted.

I like the C3, lots of work to make everything fit and I can appreciate it.

thank you for sharing these pictures. Your examples are what the car is being patterned after. We will be installing the same plexiglass light covers as well. This car is being built to a theme and quite accurate I might say. It is a race car and built to resemble one.

I was quite happy to see it in one color. It was really hard to see how the car was going to fit together when all the bodywork was still on the car. It is starting to grow on me.

It is going to have some old school graphics like the picture Mavawreck showed but I am going to have to disappoint you and tell you the car is planned to be satin black. It is going to have some gloss red stripes and other graphics yet to be determined. I think we can all wait and see how it comes together. The owner has built some really cool projects in the past so I must trust this one will end successfully as his other work has already proven.

Its OK..........at least you didn't say it was THE ugliest vette you have every seen.:willy_nil

Mark,
I have just about recovered from your wild party. Seriously, my neighbor and I had a wonderful time and I've been to some 5-star resorts that didn't treat me as graciously as you and your crew did. Please apologize to Deanna for me and tell her I promise never to do it again. I'm not sure I did anything but it's what I tell my wife any time I am having too much fun.

I think I caught most of my drool when I was checking out the cars. It's rare that I get to see that many awesome cars in such a beautiful setting. It's usually a a really hot day walking around an even hotter asphalt parking lot trying not to pass out.

I found the '71 to be an amazing car but then again, I got to see it up close. With the chassis and engine set up it's a full-on race car that can be driven on the street. The body mods are the owner's choice and I'm impressed with the transformation and the execution... from this:

...to this in 5 months (working part-time)

Just to put all this in perspective, I've been told my '87 is also one of the ugliest Corvettes ever seen. My only excuse is that I bought it in 1991 when it was the latest and greatest. I also bought it because I liked it and wasn't aware of my responsibility to own things everyone else likes.

Bob, I think you nailed it right on the head. This isn't a stock C3, it is a race car. With all the modifications done to it, it can't look like a stock C3. Trying to make it look like a stock c3 would be counter-productive to it's clear purpose and honestly, the end product would probably be awful. I think they have done a great job of modifying this car to fit the modded drivetrain, suspension, and much larger wheels in a functional way while still maintaining some of the vehicle's heritage.

Steve......hey man its OK to look at other threads.....I mean its not that you would be cheating on me:lol:

I had an astronaut in the garage today........a real one! I wished I would have taken a picture but I thought it might be rude. My brother was married this weekend and Doug Wheelock attended it. They came over to visit this morning after having breakfast. We sat around a he spoke of space walking, being on the space station for a total of 178 days and re-entry into the atmosphere. He was a very unique guy and his stories were very captivating. You can google Doug Wheelock and see some of the pictures he took from space.

My mother tongue is French, it coulve been worse LOL
I have to translate everything so sometimes I invent new words or expression... Sorry.
About the car, I respect what the customer wants, also the work involved to turn those machine into what the owner wants.
Just expressin an opinion.
The C2 on the other hand, is just beautifull.

Mark,

Would be interested in purchasing the instrument cluster and the "cookie tins" along with the glove box door from the '63. Please PM me with the details if you are going to sell these parts.

Best,

Ody.

We built the red cabinets out of plywood and they are covered in mica. All the drawers are full roll out so you have full access to the drawer. I have a total of 10 of these in the shop. The tool boxes came from Harbor Freight. Since I am just storing parts in them I felt they would be heavy duty enough for the job. I am pleased with them for the price. Hardware storage drawers are very expensive so I am going to try to make due with these.

Its hideously awesome. I would rock it around town any day.

It would be fun to drive. We will have it back to do all of the wiring and to get this bad boy running. We will definitely do a you tube video of it running.

thank you Tom. Spend as much time planning as you can because it pays off in the end.

Your always welcome to come visit. Until then I will keep the pictures coming.

Tomorrow I will hopefully pulling the body off the frame of the 63 split window. I will do up a bunch of pictures tomorrow.

My dad has an 81 and my grandfather has an 81 also, as well as an 01 (all stock). he may trade the 01 in next year for a 2015

whens the next corvette show? my dads needs the interior re-done, so i have some panels off etc at the moment, but its still driveable and looks good from the outside. needs some more TLC such as all new weather stripping, etc. maybe i can talk him into coming to the next show!!

my dads:
