anyone have experience with this?
want to know if it will help isolate a squeaking serpentine belt...is it the alternator? is it the compressor?...etc...
Seems like a highly specialized tool, but not what you seek. Take a piece of rubber hose and hold one end up to ear and probe around with the other end.
i can answer my own question...i bought the unit and got to try it out...it does NOT "hear" a squeaking belt. worked well finding a vacuum leak that i confirmed with a smoker. i used the solid end to hold against the power steering pump while it was running on the lift and it sounded fairly loud so i replaced it. swing and a miss...squeak was right back. it also quickly found a leak at my main air compressor in the shop...would i buy it over again?...probably...it is quicker than hooking up the smoker but it definitely doesn't "hear belt squeaks"...
