Seems like a highly specialized tool, but not what you seek. Take a piece of rubber hose and hold one end up to ear and probe around with the other end.

I bet its the idler.

I use a very long screwdriver, tip on the suspected noisey part and the handle near your ear keeping it away from the moving parts.

i can answer my own question...i bought the unit and got to try it out...it does NOT "hear" a squeaking belt. worked well finding a vacuum leak that i confirmed with a smoker. i used the solid end to hold against the power steering pump while it was running on the lift and it sounded fairly loud so i replaced it. swing and a miss...squeak was right back. it also quickly found a leak at my main air compressor in the shop...would i buy it over again?...probably...it is quicker than hooking up the smoker but it definitely doesn't "hear belt squeaks"...:)

I was thinking about buying that. I saw a scotty kilmer video where he said you could actually hear a refrigerant leak (
). It seemed to good to be true. If you get the chance to try this on an ac leak, please post how well it worked.

will give it a try...my guess is it will work...it's tuned to high pressure leaks...
