Marvin Elevate Double Hung Weatherstrip Color

We're replacing our 1987 200 series Anderson's with Marvin Elevate(formerly Integrity) and going with a black exterior and white interior. My question is around the weatherstrip package. The choices are black, white, or beige.


The problem is that the jamb liner/weatherstripping is visible on both sides of the window. Has anyone bought these windows specifically with black exterior and white interior? If so, what color jamb liners did you go with? Black would be ultra noticeable on the interior, white will probably be mildly noticeable on the exterior, although we're going wtih a modern farmhouse vibe and will have white board and batten siding. Beige would blend well with both colors.


Right now I have them bid as white, but I'm wondering if beige may be a better choice?

Here's an example of the window with wood interior and black exterior, but you can see the visible beige jamb liner on both sides.

what's the trim on the outside ... they are inserts correct. Is the trim dark ?

I'm wondering how long this black window trend is going to last?

I had the same trouble with Anderson. They don't even give you the option of a good looking window. Who wants to look at plastic weatherstripping? And don't get me started on the exterior color placement. Even in that sample it's wrong. Black is a good sash color but then the jamb comes black also even though most will do white trim. I ended up painting the jamb in mine so it matched the trim.

My neighbors just finished an addition and all new windows. They chose black exterior trim on the windows. I don't notice any white or beige showing from outside, but I don't know what windows they have. I'm not big on the black exterior trim. It's just a little too "trendy" for me. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks good, but I just tend to stick to very traditional themes.

Trim will be white. Black frames and sashes. And no, they're new construction windows as we're getting new siding as well.

So, they do have nicer windows with hidden jamb liners in the signature series. But I hear you, these are essentially a nicer fiberglass andersen 400 series that's about 2/3 of the price. Andersen also has the A series that hides the liner but again, crazy expensive.

I think my problem is that my exterior color and interior color are different. I need to pick one. I could get black jamb liners, but then they'd ALSO be black on the inside. And since the liners are much more visible on the interior than the exterior, black liners on white sashes would be pretty loud I think. Whereas the little bit of white on the outside would just match the trim and paint of the house. Although it would be in the middle of the window.

Beige is probably the best compromise. That's what mine are and short of not being visible it's the best they can do.

The color placement is a major issue in my opinion yet none of the window manufacturers seem to care? Second picture is corrected for white trim.

What you filled in white is the fiberglass frame, which is going to be black. That picture is exactly what it'll look like on the exterior. There will be 5/4 white trim outside of that.

I know that they come black frame if you order black sash. It's bad design, they don't even have the option to order it right. The frame really needs to match the trim. Otherwise it really screws up the proportions of the window.

Unfortunately it's really common and none of the manufacturers seem to care. It shouldn't be a big deal to change it.

The Anderson's I got are vinyl clad and I had to buy special paint to use on the frame to fix the issue.

Are they meant to have a screen? If you have a black-framed screen, will it cover the exposed beige from the exterior?

I think that's the best answer yet... yes, didn't even think of that. They'll have black screens that should hide it a little bit.

I think I'll probably leave them as white given that info. Can't believe I forgot about the screens [emoji23][emoji2357]
