masking doorway for epoxy coating

Researching epoxy floor coatings...would like to do my double garage soon and have a few questions.

How do you keep the epoxy from flowing under the garage door? I see some using tape but wouldn't the epoxy flow over the tape?

Would like to do half the garage at a time and use one of the expansion joints as a stop/start line down the middle. (too much junk to move everything out). Would the finished floor look ok like this? Would you mask the joint with tape?

Epoxy is generally thick. You can cut a shallow line across the floor or bring it out to the drive. YES YOU CAN BRING IT OUT TO THE DRIVE, we do it 1/2 floors and it is fine.

You can end the material under the door using tape, pull tape prior to cure. Green Tape is best.

IMO It looks pretty tacky if the garage coating extends out past the garage door, think about it , looking at the house with the door closed and a 6" strip of epoxy floor sticking out.

I plan on ending it at the door (inside edge) just was afraid the epoxy would get past the tape and gum up the door seal. Would like to keep the door closed during the "painting" to keep dust from blowing in and all over the floor.

Leaving your epoxy to terminate without a natural ending point is a great place for failure to begin. Either key into the floor or terminate on a natural transition to avoid a problem.

IMO, it looks worse to have the door open and have that ugly apron sitting up next to the clean floor. There are ways to accomplish this without uv issues.

Well that does look good! but with a darker epoxy and a regular cement driveway not so much.

Leave it inside where it's suppose to be. Saw cut a termination line under the door and stop it there. You wont have any problems. These guys that pull thier epoxy outside to allow the sun to get to it is just silly. Give it a couple months and it's going to look like ****.

What size of cut? width/depth? what type of saw or grinder? and do you let the epoxy flow into the cut?
