Hi guys

been on here a while, love some of the garages n sheds that ive seen n love alot of the cars on here.....its great the way some of you really use the space really well in such confind areas.....

i want to build a new double garage type buidling for cutting timber for the fire n also store another car in.....my problem is what way do I build it...here in ireland we have a much damper climate than most of the forms shown on this site....

if i go with blockwork more than likely i would need to get a bricklayer in to do the work and also it would be much stronger than timber frame as scrap timber will be laying against the wall waiting to be cut.....

if i go with timber i can do all the work myself with the help of my dad, so labour costs will be cut down

my plan is to build it approx 24x20 giving at least 10 to the garage area...it will have double doors on both sides plus a pedestrian access door with a mono pitch roof, internally it will have 8ft high ceilings....i was thinking of cladding the exterior with old pallets (after i have broken them up) and then painting it with burnt diesel oil...(i ave done this with a fence n it looks great imo) the agarge part would be used for both things housing a car n also a work place when it rains

ill be on a very tight budget but what do ya think would be the best option :dunno:

You are talking a rough and tough use.
You need to decide just how weather tight you need to make it.
If you have the wood to work with it would seem silly not to use it.

Laying block is not that big a deal. Utube or get a book. Doesn't take alot of tools either. I had a neighbor build a block garage with no exsperience. I did the trusses and decking.

How about the metal sheds that are available anywhere now.very good prices since the financial meltdown and all you need is a concrete base and there install it, no planning needed either....

Fastest way to get a working garage I'd say...
