I have an older flat screen that I’m relegating for outdoor use under an extended eave. House is 60’s era block and brick style.

What type of masonry insert should I use and where should I insert, the actual brick or mortar joints? I’m hoping to put some permanent insert that can be unbolted to bring everything in for the winter.

I’ve already purchased RedHead sleeve inserts but not sure if they’re the better option for my intended use.

I'm not sure on your specific question, but I have a suggestion for another option.

They make TV mounts with quick connects. One piece mounts to the wall, the other to the TV, and they clip together. You could get one of these and use tapcons to mount to the masonry then bring the TV in over the winter. The only thing is you would still have the mount on the wall, but you could get a sign or some kind of outdoor art to hide it over the winter.

Here is the one we have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NKYYMAW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Mine has that but I’d rather bring everything inside once I’m done for the season as it’s as easy as undoing two bolts. If not able I can do that as second option.

My questions really were.

1) what’s the best fastener for my wall type with ability to unbolt said item but leave threaded insert or bolt stud behind?
And
2) where’s is the better place to anchor, mortar joint or actual brick itself?

It all depends on the mortar, anchoring to the brick is usually better but if it is a good solid mortar that it really doesn’t make a difference
