Massive kickback from angle grinder on startup

I've got a 9" bosch angle grinder and when its start switch is pressed you better hope you've got a good hold of it as it kicks like a mule.
You need to hold it tightly with both hands and brace your elbow against your knee otherwise you get a facefull of grinder.

Any idea why it does this? My 4.5" grinder can be held in one hand when its switched on and theres no kickback at all.

Amperage. Your 9 incher is going to have a bunch more power not to mention rotating mass than the 4.5.

I'm not often scared of power tools but this thing freaks me out everytime i have to use it.

Considerably larger rotating mass that is being accelerated very fast (F=ma)

Honestly, learn to love that kick.

A lot of 9" grinders today come with softstart and a pile of other needless protection features. However, the manufacturers seem to use these to skimp on the size of brushes, connectors and wiring. They don't take kindly to abuse.

This thing is about 20 years old and weighs a ton. It should survive a direct nuclear attack. My new 4.5" bosch one lasted 2 weeks and the replacement 3.

Softstart would be a nice feature to have on this. My neighbour hit himself in the chin when he used it last.
