Anyone try the 1/2" drive 18V Mastercraft Maximum impact wrench yet? I have been thinking about buying one because it looks pretty handy.

We can't get the Craftsman 19.2v one here in Canada (although I'd by one of those if I could) but the Maximum one has specs that arent far off. About 130 ft-lbs I believe is it's rating.

It's pretty pricey regular (299) but I see it on sale regularly (with 2 batts and a charger) for 169.99. Not a bad deal if its any good.

But isn't that their line of windows & doors? I believe Menards' tool line is Masterforce but I've never even seen, much less visited, one of the stores...

Mastercraft (and Mastercraft Maximum) are exclusive to Canadian Tire. There was a US company a couple of years back called MasterCraft, but I believe they were forced to change their name.

I know there is masterforce, but I believe I have seen mastercraft also. I could be wrong though, been known to happen.

I would be looking at a DeWalt first before dropping any cash on that model. For reference the older style Mastercraft were made pretty decent back in the day.

One of the line workers here has a similar model it has some decent power. But the batteries don't seem to hold a charge too long once its past the 8 months mark.

If you're a casual user it just might fit the bill . . . Regardless, go with any brand that has the lithium cells so you dont have to worry about battery storage, memory effect, etc.

Got one, returned it within the hour.

The lady at the counter asked what was wrong with it.
So I told her it was a pos.
She then proceeded to ask me if she could put it back on the shelf.
To that... all I could answer was "if selling sh!t tools is a company policy, then yes, put it back on the shelf".
I'm not sure where it ended.

On the other end... my father-in-law has one and he seems to love it.
But then again... he doesn't really know much about tools, or even what to do with them.

DeWALT Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Pack

That's a good price for that combo, but assuming you don't want/need a hammerdrill, you can slap the bare tool on craigslist/kijiji and get $125 more-or-less immediately. You'll get another $15 for the bag. :thumbup:
