Anyone familiar with if there are receiving kits that can be purchased for Mastercraft Maximum ratchets? I have one of the older design, I believe 72T, and the 1/2" ratchet keeps skipping out of direction on the selector on its own.

Just go in store and ask for a new one. I've never heard of Canadian tire rebuilding their crappy ratchets. Who knows? They might upgrade you to one of the new 90 tooth ones.

It's a pear shaped head ratchet, very similar to this one. Only difference is it has a snap ring on the front instead of screws from the back.

I guess my best bet is just to take it into the store as most are suggesting. My only reservation against that is that it's not "obviously broken". The self-reversing only happens intermittently and usually when I'm ratcheting quickly. So I was concerned about getting into an argument over whether it's defective or not.

Also for the price of a rebuild kit and the fact that I've gotten probably 10+ years of good use out of it, I figured I could stand to fix it myself. It's not really a defect so much as it's probably just worn out from use.

I also know it's not a high end ratchet, but it works for what I use it for well, and it's still cheaper to spend a few dollars on a rebuild kit and 5 minutes of my time than buying a new one. I'll take it in one day this week though and see what happens.

Seriously doubt a clerk is going to give you a hard time. They don't care.

Bet you are in and out in 5 minutes

That looks like a Stanley ratchet.

It definitely does. I have a Stanley one that looks very similar. I would just toss it out or break it and see if crappy tire upgrades you to one of their newer offerings. With a lot if cheap ratchets, it's an inherent problem. I would just go to princess auto and replace it with one of their composite ratchets when it goes on sale.

maximum are over the counter, as long as they are not used commercially or obviously abused. I had a Maximum tool box that a pal toppled a 24" bandsaw onto.... destroyed the box and they looked at it and said "go grab another off the shelf" :)

bandsaw was fine, in case you were wondering.

Hmmm I got a 3/4” flex head ratchet wrench that’s loose as hell from work.

Gonna try to see what they do at the counter. Set is on sale this week too...

Which set are you seeing on sale this week? All I see is Stanley branded ratchets on sale.

Maybe different sales in Alberta and Ontario?

I did as most suggested and just exchanged it. The process was actually much less painful than I expected. I went in the morning when it was just a CS manager working, and when she saw me walking up she sent me straight to the Tool section for replacements without even asking any questions.

Took me 10 minutes to find someone actually working in the tools to get the display unlocked, but taking them back up to CS she again just printed out the paperwork in about 30 seconds and didn't ask what was wrong with the ratchet or take a second glance at it. Tool warranty veteran.

I was almost lucky enough to get one of the new 90T replacements, as the guy initially grabbed it, but then he looked confusedly at how different the two ratchets looked, and then dug around in the display until he found the older style 72T. I'm not even sure why they still stock the 72T version. Both are labelled as Maximum, neither ever seem to go on sale, and the 72T is $49.99 regular price and the 90T I think was $69.99. I don't see too many people buying either at regular price, but especially not the dated 72T sloppy design versus the newer sealed head 90T for only $20 more.

Dunno if Ontario and Alberta is different. I wouldn’t think so but I could be wrong.
Both standard and metric Mastercraft maximum flex head gearwrenches are on sale, 49.99$ reg 129.99$.

Edit: CanadianTire.ca showed they on sale there too, I used Kingston as a reference.

Now all I need to do is get the missing ones from each set including some sockets when I got an extra twenty in my pocket here and there.
