Mastercraft Warrenty Issues?

has any other Canadians had issues getting warrenty on Mastercraft tools at Canadian Tire? Twice now they tried to tell me that there was no lifetime warrenty on Mastercraft hand tools. The first time it was a 3/8 extention, they said it didn't have lifetime warrenty. After I got a new on off the shelf with "lifetime warrenty" on the tag, and took it to the manager, he said I would need to have my original receipt for any warrenty. I took it to antother location and they swapped it no questions asked (like its always been).

Today I took back a Mastercraft Professional Series gear wrench. Same song and dance, and this time it was already the manger serving me at the counter. He tried to give me some BS about only tools with the product number stamped in them have lifetime warrenty. I have never seen this, but ok. I went and got a new on off the shelf, and showed him, and he said " thats a Maximum Series, not a Professional Series" (exact same tools, but they changed the name a few years back). I went to another location, walked out with a new one two minutes later.

Has anyone else ran into this, or is every second Canadian Tire location I go to complete morons?

C.T. makes much of the lifetime warranty on their Mastercraft hand tools. I have exchanged a couple of broken torx sockets with no problem. I also exchanged a broken 1/4" ratchet that was imprinted with 'Canadian Tire' on the handle. Again, no issues. The staff was professional and courteous.

It sounds like your Manager does not know the Mastercraft warranty, or he is just an idiot. I would escalate, and discuss the matter with the store owner, then call corporate headquarters from the Customer Service Desk. You should not have to travel to another store for better service.

At one time they used to advertise in their catalog as Mastercraft hand tools have a lifetime no questions asked warranty.I used to have a copy of the catalog but it got lost in the divorce.

I've had a 1/2" breaker bar, and a couple non-laminate ratcheting wrenches warrantied without any hassle.

I've broken taps, dies and handles from my Mastercraft set and they even replace them no questions. I haven't been in lately but I've always been treated well to this point. I was actually looking for a new cover for my portable shelter and they just recently changed models so they didn't stock it any more. They had one returned in the back and gave me the cover from it for free that is normally 120 bucks!

the stores are individually owned as franchises...........one here will only accept returns if bought at their store, the others accept all returns, but all make returns difficult...........very rarely buy anything from them as costco has better prices and services for anything i have ever needed , except for their cordless 1/2 inch impact gun...........for parts, local jobbers here are competitive...........and what does the w in wiinnipeg stand for? [ in a jewish accent] "wholesale !!!!!!!!!!!"........and this is not a slur as we have a large jewish population and theywill be the first to tell you , "you never pay reatail"..........

Never had to take anything back to them, but I started a long time ago to keep the receipts for anything over 10 bucks that I buy for the garage. I like Canuck tire they have pretty good stuff and some of it is really priced right, got a 2 position heat gun for 8.99 and the cold beer and wine store takes CT money on par.

I don't buy any tools from them unless it's one helluva deal. I've had hassles returning tools, but never, ever had an issue with Princess Auto. I buy my cheaper tools there.

Is there any tools that are entirely made in Canada? Everything I buy thats Canadian has a lot of foriegn content in it(Fuller screwdrivers for example.) Its really Assembled in Canada but your definitions aren't as strict as ours.

+1 Some stores have pricks inside, others are staffed and run by good folks. I've had mixed luck- usually good luck - but there are so many CT Boutiques that I don't sweat a negative response. One of the stores will help out.

Rather a small product line, but I think Picquic screwdrivers are made in Canada. Also, are Beach toolboxes still made in Canada?

I'd be curious what parts of Gray's line forged in Canada. It's no secret that they fill out their line with pieces from other vendors, but I'd hope they still do some forging here for their core lines.

I believe Jet just distributes now, but did they used to manufacture?

i own whole variety of tools, from snap on, hazet, all the way down to princess auto power fist stuff....
but best warranty comes from Canadian Tire mastercraft tools..u break it, if you break it, you return it, no questions asked, they just give you a new one ...mastercraft maximum series of tools is very well made, great tool set to have for the price....the only tools i broke were torx socekts which i abused with impact gun and gearwrench, which i also overtorqued...

I dont have alot of Mastercraft, but ive never had a problem warranting anything.

However, i do have friends who abuse their tools (pipes on 3/8 ratchets etc.) and i was told the last time they tried to exchange a ratchet, they kind of gave them a hard time (as they should IMHO) but they got a replacement in the end.

These guys would be in there once a month at least.

Another friend had warranty on a 1/4" ratchet. No problems from Crappy Tire, but the quality of the replacement stinks!! Hes not hard on stuff, and he actually stripped a fresh rebuild on a 10mm bolt. Took it back, and the next one stripped out on the same bolt!!

I think Crappys quality is going down the tubes.

i have sockets, ratchets and wrenches from 15 years ago, i'm assuming that it was still manufactured in Canada at that point, the product on the shelves now seems like **** compared to my old stuff.

I borrowed a Benchmark (home hardware brand) and broke it too.

Canadian tire refused to honor the warranty but Home hardware did.
After three attempts to get warranty on the mastercraft plier, and even talking to the store manager, i walked out and left it on the counter.

Think you should have kept it to present to another store, or better yet talk to that "800" customer service number. Got to know some of that staff quite well while making regular deliveries to local CTC stores and there is no reason to refuse to honour that warranty....costs them nothing. Never had a problem there.

I have a few of their batteries and they foolishly gave me a lifetime warranty with them. Needless to say, I have not bought a new battery in years. Once, when it came time for honouring that lifetime warranty, their tester said it was still good even though it went dead after listening to the radio for ten minutes and only had a grunt or two in the morning. They changed it anyway (I knew the guy), said no problem. That is probably battery #6 coughed up on that one warranty. It is obvious to me that nobody is watching too closely or really cares. As long as I keep my green warranty slip they keep exchanging them N/C.

At our local Cdn tire, all they usualy give are rebuild kits. If your lucky and there's someone there who rebuilding a ratchet doesnt completly confuse, theyll fix it, otherwise you have to fix it on your own time.

You never get a new, off the shelf, model, unless the rebuild kits in stock wont fit.

Personally, id never give them my old( Stanley sourced) mastercraft ratchet for the current offshore models with the weird direction control that my buddy destroyed. They aint worth a ****. Dont matter what the warranty is, its hard to get any work done when you spend half your time running back to the store to exchange broken tools.

If they were smart (which is questionable) they'd offer a true Professional series sourced from north america (gray would be nice, since they used to supply CdnTire or even SK or Armstrong). Yeah, I've used one of those newer CT ratchets at my buddies place, and that rotating selector switch is a bit weird. On the flip side, at least with the regular Mastercraft socket sets you get sockets with the sizes stamped in them, not laser etched like the Maximum series, which I don't like.

If they were smart (which is questionable) they'd offer a true Professional series sourced from north america (gray would be nice, since they used to supply CdnTire or even SK or Armstrong).

I wouldn't mind seeing some higher-end stuff from CT. But I'd settle for just getting rid of the Jobmate **** and sticking to their middle-of-the-road Mastercraft stuff. I've noticed even some of the Mastercraft branded stuff is now being converted to Jobmate items.

For sockets in particular they have a habit of skipping sizes and filling sets with unrelated pieces like bit screwdrivers, allen keys, combo wrenches, etc. They should make socket and wrench sets complete within the size range, and more modular so that you can choose from a couple of basic sets and add modules on as required.

They add that useless junk (allen keys, etc) to bump up the numbers to make it sound better. They do ocassionally offer a set with no extra junk. Like a couple of weeks back they had a (#58-9210-0) Mastercraft 3/8" and 1/4" (42 piece) drive set for $15.......did you get one of those?

They add that useless junk (allen keys, etc) to bump up the numbers to make it sound better.

The thing is that in a 150ish piece set they might include 6 or 8 combination wrenches. Which might be okay as spares, but 3 or 4 metric and 3 or 4 SAE sizes are not enough to be really useful. And then they'll skip the 16mm, 18mm, and 21mm sockets. They'd be better off at 145 pieces with the full selection of sockets, and without the extra wrenches. At a comparable if not cheaper production cost.

I did see that 42 piece set on sale, was even tempted to get it as a cheap backup set, but I've already got duplicates of most of the sizes anyways, and I'd rather buy a bit higher quality.

unfortunately i have no pics of that ratchet specifically. You can see it in my ratchet drawer here. its on its back next to the Craftsmans and easco.

As to COO i think its actually canadian. I could be wrong about the stanley thing Made by Litton maybe?
