Masterforce 72" Question

I'm about 99% ready to drop the coin on the Masterforce 72" its on sale right now! I've been to a couple stores to look at them and nobody around me has one in stock but they do have the smaller sizes there so that's what I have for a comparison.

The drawers seem to operate smooth and the handles/latches seem to work nice, box feels pretty solid and should get better once I ad weight. So far everything seems exactly what I'm looking for except one thing. The locking wheels seem to be junk? I lock them down and it will still swivel, I can rock the box back and forth. I can not deal with that in my garage so it could potentially be a deal breaker.

While I was there looking they had another Masterforce box that I haven't seen before, its a 57" I believe and comes in grey at least in the store. Now this box has a nice set of wheels and the locking wheels work great! They have an easy lock/unlock mechanism and it also locks the swivel at the same time. Now I really don't want to buy this box as I would like a 72" and I would like the 24" depth of the 72 vs. this one which is around 18" I believe?

So my questions to you guys that own the 72s, do the boxes move around after you lock the wheels? Does the swivel lock on yours? Are the wheels different on the 72 compared to the smaller sizes? Or should I order the 72 then buy some different locking wheels which looks like will be around $60 for 2?

Here's some pictures of the grey box with the nice locking wheels and the smaller Masterforce with the other wheels that I'm assuming come on the 72"

^^^ Those are the wheels I would like to have on the 72" (Wish it was an option)

The casters are the same style but larger on the 72"....... The 72" is very heavy not sure how much you will be moving it around.

I did some research on these a few weeks ago the HF 72 had better reviews so I bought one of those. They are on sale now for 1099 also. Have you checked out the HF boxes?

To the OP, the swivels on the 72 and smaller Masterforce boxes don't lock the turning aspect, just the wheel. But I can't really say I have noticed them swiveling much when locked. If your garage floor unlevel or is there another reason that you are concerned about movement?

Not disagreeing with you, but everyone I have seen on here and other sites have had rave reviews on the Masterforce line. When I compared em with the HF, the Masterforce won hands down on drawer stability when opening and closing, drawing locking system, and warranty. Luckily for me I have a HF and menards within a mile of each other. And the extra colors is just a nice bonus.

I really don't plan on moving the box around, I'm more concerned about opening/shutting drawers or working on top of the box and having it rock back and forth...

The way that gray box would lock was very nice, even with only one wheel locked you couldn't rock that box at all.

I've looked at the harbor freight in the past but its been awhile, I'm not a fan of the color red so that is kinda keeping me away from those...

My garage is fairly level besides the slope from back to front for drainage, I'm concerned about the box moving at all while opening/closing drawers or working on it or bumping into it etc... I just want a nice solid box...

Mine stays put when I opened the drawers.......as far as the gray one, it is not even in the same class as the 72" IMOP....

If you are looking to save some money the 56" Masterforce is $569

I have the 41 inch one, and it has the same casters or very similar. It doesn't move a bit in use. With full weight in it, it's actually hard to roll it around much when you want it to move.

If the casters are really a dealbreaker, I'd just replace them with what you want. You might find that if you don't roll the box around at all, you can turn the wheels manually to be at odd angles to each other, and that will lock them from rolling even more.

I really like the masterforce boxes, they are well made and in my opinion, about the best value out there for quality/performance/price. They are more expensive than the HF, although close to the same price on sale, and are similar construction material thickness. But, design and build quality is higher. I've been really pleased with the two I have.

I think you will be fine, i have two boxes sitting next to each other. They dont move at all when opening/closing the drawers. Even with the big top drawer overloaded with sockets and ratchets, it is still very smooth.

I also have seen the other box you are looking at, they had one in the store ahwile back. IMO its like comparing apples to oranges when looking at overall build quality.

Yeah I don't want that 56" I just want the wheels off it haha, its kind of mind boggling that they would put those wheels on the 56" and not the 72" as they are far superior.

I do like hearing from you guys that your box is solid and doesn't move around when in use that makes me feel better about ordering it.

Im thinking I might buy the locking casters for another $60 and swap them out right when I get it just so I don't have to worry about it in the future. Thanks

yeah I agree the quality isn't the same but they put the better quality wheels on the lesser quality box? :dunno:

If anyone has a 72" and gets a minute this weekend could you measure the wheels and the bolt pattern where they mount to the box. I think if I get some different wheels I'd be happy with it!
