Anyone know how tall the box is without casters? Looks a bit tall for a Steevo type bench. None in stock at my local store.

I'm kind of intrigued with the new gunmetal color scheme. Been considering the 56" box as an upgrade to my current box but due to possible changes in job responsibilities I won't need the extra tool space. Still, if I did need something bigger than the 56" I would look at these as an option. I like that they have the grip-latch drawers; those are pretty much a must-have for me. Also, I see this one doesn't have the set of center wheels like the other 72" box (slightly different model #s but basically the same drawer layout. New replacement model?).

Also the green and blue colors look different. Hoping someone here buys one and can share some pictures. I'm liking that new blue as it looks on the site.

I need to sneak into a store and measure the height of the 72" cabinet only. I want a bench setup and debating between doing the 56" + 36" vs the 72". I like the triple set of long drawers on the 72" but its so tall.

It's that or jump on a used KRL722

just came from a menards. tool box aisle re arranged. they had NO big boxes - top / bottom/ set. only had (3) sets, all masterforce new style, 24'' deep. no width measurement, no time to grab a tape measure. one was narrow (31?, 36?) others 41, 45?.
montezumas, performax, and whatever else they carried before, wasn't in that aisle.
didnt have time to walk the store to see if they were buried somewhere else

I was looking at picking up a second box for home use off Strictly Toolboxes but don't like that i can't see one in person but also heard that Masterforces were rebranded Montezumas and if so that would give me a good idea of the quality, if that makes sense.

Easily best quality boxes available via big box stores. The griplatch design is very nice. Gunmetal looks good in person. Online the green looks like a different (better) shade than the previous green, but I haven't seen a new green in person.

I swung by the local Menards last night and they had one of the 72" boxes on the floor.

It's a beast. I notice the slides are all rated at 150lbs each and double slides on the top wide and bottom deep drawers. It feels solid. The body is certainly a heavy thick gauge metal (way nicer than Husky, etc). The build quality actually felt better than the HF stuff and the grip latch is nice. Feels like for a homeowner it would be the ticket.

For those wanting to build a "bench" the 72" unit has almost 8" of caster height and the body is right at 37" in height. So one could floor mount it or use a little riser and be in the 39-40" height with a wood top, etc.

Well literally as I posted this message JustinMC answered my question on the quality of the bigger boxes. I wasn't sure because the 72 doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere but if its as good as say the 41 I don't see a reason the 56 wouldn't be as good as well. I may be picking on up soon then. Maybe in a different color lol.

Same maker... same line. Masterforce isn't like Husky where HD has maker X make the 41" box and maker Y makes the 52" box. They are all made by the same company. I wouldn't be afraid of ordering online unless you don't have a store nearby to have it shipped to.

Didn't really look at the trim to see if it was removable. I'm going to assume like most trim pieces it slides on. Might have a little tab or something. I am assuming one could paint them.

I was just afraid that it may be one of those things that's not meant to be taken apart and once it has been, its impossible to reassembly or is destroyed in the process.

I pried on it in the store a little and it seems like it would pop off pretty easy.

I own the previous design 72" box with the 6 roller wheels and am very happy with it. I use the top as a bench after adding the stainless steel top they offered at the time. Wish mine had the power strip however.

Same here - 6 caster 72" with the stn stl top. Been running it for almost 2 years. Great box - Highly recommend! Mine ran $999 on sale back then. Looks like this would be the best time to grab one right now with the sale + 11%. I remember waiting around for the sale back when I was in the market......seemed like it took forever......kind of like watching a pot of water waiting for it to boil. The pot of water is boiling now.

I have the previous 72" version (still with the lift latch handles).

Mine = 72 1/2" W x 24" D x 44 3/4" H and 33,652 cu in. of storage at 2,600lbs max
New = 72 5/8" W x 24 5/8" D x 45-7/8" H and 38,600 cu in. of storage at 3,000lbs max

The only differences are the wheels (mine has 6 smaller ones VS 4 bigger onces) and the new one has a built in power strip. Obviously, I won't be buying a new 72". I don't know how they made it just a hair different to get 5,000 cu in. storage more, but the front of it looks the exact same as mine (drawer layout is identical).

I did the same thing 408sbc did....Mine listed at $1,499.99 and I bought it on sale at $999.99. That's the best it ever went. I also liked the additional height of the 72" cabinet compared to the others. I wanted a top to be able to set things on, but also didn't want to be bending down for every single tool (sockets, wrenches, etc. that's used the most).

Now, I'm looking to buy the 46" cabinet as a roll around unit/cart. Hoping it will be a manageable size to roll around while still being able to fit it in the back of my truck if needed via my Tommy Lift. I passed it up this past sale ($699.99 reg, on sale $599.99 plus 11% off, saving another $65).

I'm so happy that they made the smaller boxes all 24" deep now. That was half the reason for going with the 72"...until now.

They have raised the prices across the board now. 72" is $1600. I seem to recall the 41" combo going on sale quite often for $700 in the previous model (can't remember what the regular price was). Now, the 41" combo is $1,000 regular price. I also agree that they're not giving away the old model. Prices seem to not even match that of the old sale prices. I'm also glad they're carrying the gunmetal gray in the store and not the green. Not a huge fan of the green handles, but I'll special order a black cabinet again when the time comes anyways to match my 72".

For anyone looking for larger boxes, I've only seen anything bigger than the 41" box at two stores...the newer store in Rochester, MN and one in Eau Claire, WI (this one is huge, and should be as it's the "home town" of Menards). Stores will order in anything you want, unless it's the clearance model (then you have to pay the shipping and send it to your home).

I have a 5'x8' utility trailer with the larger 15" rims and remember it sagged a lot with the 56" cabinet loaded on to it. I couldn't imagine trying to transport a 72" one. And if I ever move, it's going to be a nightmare.

There's only 1 good solution....flatbed tow truck. That's usually how guys that work in shops move their big boxes.

The only other option would be a winch mounted to a low trailer with smooth ramps.

I bought a 72" and had them put it in the bed of my truck on two moving dollies. I pulled it down on harbor freight ramps to a pallet covered with plywood, then down the second stage of the ramp. By myself, using a floor jack and ratchet straps to pull it.

Was it easy? No. But it got done...

Empty, it can be done. I did it with 3 or 4 guys and pulling half it out of the bed and setting it on the ground, then lifting the front half while the truck was moved away.

Loaded, there's no way I'm moving it unless it's a very slight angle ramp going onto a trailer.

I did hear of a guy using a snowmobile trailer, but no idea what size box that was.

I am moving and decided to pack all my tools into cardboard boxes first and push the boxes up ramps into my truck bed. I really didn't want to but the realities of moving loaded toolboxes made it an easy choice.
