Masterforce Tool Boxes 24" Deep

Went by Menards and took a look today. They had a blue 72" on display. I am on the fence between blue or black. Just had a lift installed and it's blue. Not a fan of the green handles on the brown.

I also was looking at the 36". Both have a large drawer on top with the other wide width drawers below. I didn't look closely at the 36" but it appears the 72 you could swap the thin drawer and big top drawer. There are posts for the locks on the dual glide wide drawers. I am curious if anyone with a 36" can see if it's the same. I bet it is so they can mix the drawer arrangement for future offerings.

I also had a look at the side locker and side box. Locker is not as tall as the top box. Kind of disappointing. It's about a foot shorter. Side box looks fine. Both seem to tip out a bit at the top due to the mounting. Anyone with either of these, how do you like them?

Blue looks better than the black . Looks more tool truck professional too .

The front of the one in the picture was in shadows. I should have used the flash. It is a nice looking box up close. If I got the 77, the first thing I would do is move that big drawer down and put those thin ones on top.

I am still wondering why the side locker is not as tall as the top box.

Had a blue 72 inch delivered a few weeks ago. I didn't want to go with the traditional red or black. I had a Harbor Freight 56" prior and I feel that this box is much better built. I have had pro boxes in the past and they were on the radar when I was looking but I couldn't get this much box in my budget in a pro brand. I was impressed with the casters on the unit and the metal channels welded on the bottom of the long top drawer. The 3 50 inch drawers are awesome.

I know. When I saw the 72 inch in person, I opened one of those and just imagined how I would lay out my tools. I was considering the 56 with top box but it has so many shorter drawers. I am now leaning toward the 36 since it has more thin wide drawers. That blue looks great!

36" boxes are pretty decent .
I got 2 36" boxes at home and you get loads in them as drawer is very usable size for most usual toolbox tools.
online menards prices pretty good deal at 199 for side box and 439 for the 36"
Think I would buy 2 36" and a side drawer box over the 72" as cheaper and easier move/transport etc .
Locker expensive for what it is .

I wish the locker was taller so I could hang my chainsaw chaps. I think they missed on the locker. Shame.
Nice thing about going with a 36 is I can just get one and add one later should I need it. I also plan on getting the top box.

Ive got my eye on the 36. Would be perfect for my needs, almost. I'd like a few more shallow drawers myself.

You maybe able buy shallow drawers to alter the layout. I thought 36" would be better as 7 drawer.
I would think about side drawer cabinet with drawers modded to more shallow as be cheaper than 36" drawers if can buy individuals .
I personally never buy top boxes, prefer extra bottom and more counter top space .

If they offered replacement drawer pull colors, I would likely already have a grey 36 at home. Menards is a two hour drive from me. That green pull just looks wrong to me. I'll be much happier with the Blue box and silver pulls.

I have a top box on every one of mine. I have enough space to have other counter space. It's also easier for me to move a rolling table than a tool box full of tools. We all have different needs.

I like you not keen on the locker height finishing at masterforce emblem height on top box rather than going to top area and level with lid .

I like the gunmetal with the green drawer pulls, tactical and different.

I also like the two wide drawers beneath the top drawer on the 72 inch model. They would make nice wrench drawers.

None in my state either. Fortunately I live 130 miles from two. I had a reason to go there and stopped by both stores. First had 30,36 and 41 with top boxes. Spent time pushing them around and measuring drawers and spacing. Then I went to the other one and they had that big 72" box in blue and some 30" with side locker and one with a side box. I spent a lot of time measuring and fiddling. It's tempting to get that big one and call it a day. I am looking at the 36 with a side and top box. 72 looks cleaner. Sadly, I can get any of the others with top box in blue and pick them up on Monday. 72" says May 10th.

Dimes to a dollar it's just green paint over the same silver aluminum. IF, and that's an IF, I remember correctly, I'd probably just remove them and strip them. Done.

Worst case, sand them down with a sander.

Hmm, how easy is it to remove anodizing? It's not paint as far as I can tell. Also, I fiddled with them and they don't seem to want to come off easy.

Online they offer replacement handles for their Masterforce garage cabinets. Maybe an option to change handle color on a 36”. I like the gunmetal and the green trim doesn’t bother me. It must be popular when I ordered gunmetal had the longest lead time. I still would have picked the blue though.

If the 72" drawer layout works for you wait the 3 weeks as is a nice looking box and current online price decent enough.

I can probably make any drawer layout work. I am no pro so I just try to fill each drawer logically (my warped logic). That big boy is sure nice looking, especially for the price.

That is true in most cases, but the larger the box, the easier it is. Until I purchased Vidmar cabinets I struggled with every box I purchased. Deep drawers make layout so much easier.

I have a Lista table with two 24"x 30 deep legs and a two inch top. Solid and one of those things that can easily last a lifetime. I also have a 30 x 30 x 66ish with drawers all the way down. Wife is claiming it for stained glass hobby after I get my new box. It has a lot of odd tools in it. I have been eyeing 30" deep boxes but the delta in cost is steep.

I wonder if there will be a top box offered for the 72 in the future. Not that I would need it. I suppose in a pinch I could use a shorter for a non symmetrical setup. Might make an eye or two twitch.

I think he meant deeper front to rear. Not depth of the drawers. With a long 30" deep but shallow drawer, you can put lesser used tools at the rear.

Maybe email QualityCraft [email protected] and see if you can get some shallow depth drawers.

I really like the 36 and 41 chest combo's. It's a 5 hour drive for me. I may say screw it and take the drive.

I probably spent 3 hours in the two stores. Found help but not knowledgeable. It was worth my time to kick the tires and give them a good tug, prod and such. As for buying, it seems easier to buy online for store pickup. That way they bring it to the loadout area for you.
That said, both stores I went to had plenty of stock up to 41" in Gunmetal.

I'm in the MR_B camp. I don't need deep drawers, height that is. 2" drawers are what I need. But I want wide and deep drawers not a machinists box.

There's no right or wrong answers. We all have different needs.

Anybody put a pair of 36" top boxes on top of a 72" cabinet?

I scored a 72" and love the longdrawers but I would like to have the top boxes instead of the horizontal surface / debris accumulator.

I am a little nervous about the load from a pair of boxes and how it would be distributed onto the 72. I don't load my drawers heavy, and the top box would probably be lighter stuff than most...

72 capacity is 3000 lbs GVW and weighs 515.
36s are 188/ea empty.

leaves 2109 for tools and I bet I don't have 1000 in there. I like an uncrowded toolbox.

Curious if anyone has done it.

Sit on the top and see if there is any deflection. You would probably need to remove the carry handles. I know top boxes are a tiny bit narrower. I might consider doing the same.

I did some math trying to see which had more drawer surface. This was all done with top boxes. I took all the drawer widths and added them up then divided the cost by the inches. The 36" wins the 46 or less for drawer bottom space. The 56" has more overall drawer surface than the 72 for the money. The 36" is the overall best value it appears.

This might be some help for others. You might check my math before using it to make any decisions. Keep in mind that the colors cost more on the smaller boxes.

I really like the 41/46" box. In the green. It looks like a classic color. I have green Snap On tools, and they won't match up that good. But still, a great looking box.

I have to agree. The green looks nice. I just had a blue lift put in and just wanted something to match a little closer. I am still on the fence for sizes. Still shows if I order tonight I can pick up anything up to 56" tomorrow or Tuesday.

36" price per inch interesting, imagine how cheap that would of been if removed one deep drawer for 2 shallow making it 7 drawers .
36" boxes very usable storage thanks to long drawers, easy expand on with either second 36" or side hang-on drawers .
even the 56" not so good as centre split so drawer length only around 25", so drawers almost square in dimension and not great for long tool layout .

Split drawer layouts like the 56 could be sae one side and metric the other. The 5 an 8 inch deep drawers are what I am trying to imagine filling. I keep eyeing those super deep drawers on the 72”.

Here is a link to some replacement drawer pulls for their garage cabinets. I'm not sure if they would fit the tool boxes but it leads me to believe that they can be taken off, after all they went somehow without scratching the drawer face when the box was built.

Revival. Has anyone located the casters used on the newer masterforce boxes? I'm putting a side cabinet on a forbidden 36" box and noticed that it has holes drilled for casters.

Not sure if you can source them anywhere else, but I called the number for parts on the Masterforce manual and it was Quality Craft 1-800-459-4409.

I wanted all swivel casters for my new 36” and gave them the part no in the manual. 302177 for swivel and 302001 for rigid. The swivel casters were $32 each.

Wow, I'm not trying to spend $128 on casters. I may just measure the bolt pattern and see if I can find some slightly shorter. I was thinking that munuverability may be easier if the side cabinet didn't touch the ground while attached to the chest.
